Flashback Friday--Christmas Edition!

Christmas 1975.

Yes, it's me...a few days after my first birthday, in fact.

Look at how Mama purposely hung those foam-covered, silk-wrapped ornaments on the bottom branches of the tree! She must have really loved me, 'cause here's proof that I was all up in the business of redecorating this faux evergreen.

Because if my girls get within two feet of our 10-foot living room tree, I'm throw a fit bigger than a backstage pageant mom who discovers her little star's gossamer teal dress is not a one-of-a-kind original, as promised by Miss Dolly at the Lil' Missy's Shop of Pageant Goods & Sundries. Lest y'all think I'm hateful about this scenario, rest assured each child has her very own tree in her very own room. Caroline's has unbreakable ornaments, of course. Did you even have to ask?

Happy weekend, y'all!

Lula,
You are married to a handsome doctor---you don't want me girl. Sure--I can quote Ricky Bobby like nobody's business, but that won't bring in the dough. And we can only live off of love for so long... :)

I am SO pro-kid trees! I get my pretty one, and they can hang whatever they feel like on theirs (and undecorate it a billion times for all I care!).

What I'm wondering, is how you could be a whole year old in 1975 when you clearly weren't even born till the 80's. Hmmmmm....maybe an error?!

My girls have their own trees too! It is just easier that way.

You have a little prize waiting for you from me. Check out my blog!

I think I had that exact same outfit... seriously or close to it... I will email you a picture. Weird...

See, that Caroline is you all over. You know your mom is lovin' that don't ya.

Congrats on your win. How does it feel to be one of the winners like me. :)

Have a good weekend.

That is a cute picture! I wrote about Christmas trees today too!
Have an awesome weekend. :)

How cute were you! We always had cats and dogs and those silk covered balls made a real mess when they got a hold of them. Of course, we put them all up every year. Not sure which is worse, the glass everywhere or the silk and chunks of styrofoam.

I want to see a picture of this fabulous 10 foot tree of yours! I'm betting it blows all the others out of the water.

YOUR Caroline looks a lot like you! And that monster of a television behind you...yep, had one too. My brother and I once stuck magnets all over it. We oohed and aahed at the colored rings that appeared all over the screen. Dad had to call the repairman to come de-magnetize the tv. But I digress.

That tree TOTALLY looks real! (ha) You were just helping it out a little right?

Oh gosh, I totally forgot about those striped silk wrapped ornaments...until NOW. what memories you brought back for me. And you were so dang cute! Still are but in a more sexy rebellious way now :)!!!!

Great photo. I love the 70's TV in the background :-) Your mom was smart to put foam ornaments at the bottom - mine is just bare :-(

Have a great weekend!

My dad would always get a pic of my mom bending over in front of the tree. Every year. Without fail. And yes. We totally had those silk wrapped ornaments that would get frayed so easily.

I fuh-reak out if any of my chitterlins get anywhere near my tree. You like how I call it my tree? I personally rearranged all the ornaments after I lovingly let my kids decorate the tree and there ain't no way I'm gonna let them mess it up. I'm such a great mom.

I think I need to stop drinking hot chocolate and coffee mixed together. It winds me way too tight.

what a cute picture!! i remember those ornaments :) being newlyweds, we are just now starting our collection. i'm enjoying the beautiful bulbs, but also looking forward to the day when our tree is infested with our children's special creations of pipe cleaners, popcicle sticks and construction paper :)

Look at you! So cute!

I meant to get a small tree this year for the girls to have... just haven't gotten around to it yet. I thought I'd put it downstairs and they can decorate it with all their ornaments they've made from school over the past few years.

Yep, that Caroline is you all over again. Wow!

Usually I am just like you, fussing if the kids messed with the tree. But this year, Isabel and Gabe had such definite opinions on the precise placement of each ornament on our family tree, I couldn't NOT let them decorate it. And although there are a LOT of ornaments on the bottom third of the tree, I don't even care. I think my case of OCD has been cured.

omg i had that same outfit as a kid, of course it was in 72, not 75, but yanno, still.

My kid has her very own tree too .. and has for the last 3 years. She decorates, redecorates, wraps it in garland (blue and red), and I think she moves the ornaments on it every day .. but yep, it's all hers ... and she can just keep her grubby little paws off mine! :p

Right now, I am falling out of my chair. I am emailing you a picture of me at that same age...in an eerily similar outfit. And then I'm calling my mother to have a stern talk with her about keeping siblings a secret. It's just not right that she kept from me that I have a twin. It explains so much, doesn't it??

I love the70's thank-god-for-cable-knit-tights-cause-your-dress-doesn't-cover-your-tooshie look.

How bizarre that so many gals had the exact same outfit! You were adorable...and Caroline looks just like you!

What knocked me out was that little elf ornament. The first year my parent's were married (1969), they painted these funky wooden ornaments that we had on our tree for many years...your parents must have had the same ones! Ask Miss Pinky about it!

How cute! I bought Lil J her very own pink Christmas tree this year. I realize she doesn't do much more than poop or drool but I'm Mimi so I can do stuff like that. {:

You were so adorable...my how time flies! Your trees are beautiful and the girls having their own tree solves lots of problems. You need to post all your trees on your blog...love you!

What a darling little girl you were (and are). I'm a little troubled knowing that you were a year old when I was 19, must mean I could be your mom...SOB!!!

Am I the only one that did NOT have an outfit like that?? The TV, I think was pretty much universal. As well as the silk wrapped ornaments. My brother has one with his birth year on it. It's so ugly. :p

I will have to dig out some of my early Christmas photos. Too fun!

Oh, gracious! Too cute! I remember those old wooden television sets, too.

how cute are you??? and your daughter in the post below looks like you!!!!! two cutie patooties!;)-love it! I put soft ornaments at the bottom of my tree for little man too. But a tree in his room? hmmm... I am liking that idea!

Amy said...

YOu still look the same! Too cute :)

Caroline is precious and we all know it! Libbey is just a little lady even when she licks her plate! Ha!

My mom had the foam colored balls too! Now I know what she was doing!

My grandma still has her silk covered ornaments. They make me all nostalgic. You are so cute........the Christmas of 75 was my first. Oh, the memories....wait. I don't have any.....but I WAS there. :)

I'm with you, don't touch the tree. I got my kids little trees for their rooms too

Captain Dumbass said...

My wife made origami swans for the kids to decorate with. They play with them on the bottom half of the tree and after a few days they get bored and we add the regular decorations. Of course, being boys, they're pterodactyls, not swans.

I think it must of been a hot outfit in '75 because I swear I have a picture of me in an outfit just like that too.

What a cutie! Yes yes yes. Your daughters are their mothers daughters. (my brain hurts now). Yes your babies look just like you:)

Debbie said...

Oh my word...that picture is adorable and it freaks me out that it is on top of a post with Caroline who looks just like you!!!
And I am so much of a Christmas tree snob...I like MY decorations on my tree...HOWEVER, at this very moment,my kids have placed their creations on it...ya know the kind that they do down in the craft room and cut out while I catch up on my "work"...I guess I can allow it for a little while...Oh and we have a 10 footer too...Love my big tall trees!

Rhea said...

awwww! You were such a cutie!!! Our tree is going up this weekend.

Keys to the Magic Travel said...

I don't believe I had that outfit. :-)

And I should get the girls their own trees. And let them do what they will with them. Of course, then the kitties would have three trees to destroy instead of one. One that is still in the attic.

Elena said...

Look at you little cutie patootie! My kids can't touch MY tree either. But they have a kid tree that's all their's and let me tell you, It's ALL their's. I made your crockpot candy today. OH MY WORD is that good or what?! I can hardly keep myself out of it and let it dry. SO tasty thank you for sharing that! It's lovingly in my recipe as "Lula's Christmas Candy."

Stephanie Wetzel said...

What a coincidence! My kids have a kid tree too!

It's our only tree though. I guess I like "homey" trees. :) And the unbreakables definitely occupy the lower half.

You gotta miss those old fake trees with the clunky ginormous poof branches.

You were adorable.

Long time, no chat, Lula! How are you? How was LA? The Twilight premiere? How is the holiday season going for you? Catch me up! I loved Twilight & totally thought of you when I was begging the group of 25 women I went with to please stay with me and watch it again. They opted for dessert instead. So rude!

Anyway... cute pic! Fun to stop by your blog again. Missing out on all the blogging goodness. Been so busy with GNO!

Enjoy the season!

Wait - if that's a few days after your birthday...and it's Christmas Day, then there's a good chance we have the same birthday!

BTW, your Santa Swap package went out on schedule (from CA) on Friday...so it should be there any day! Hope you like your goodies!!!

Take care and Merry Christmas!
