Going Out With A Bang.

This New Year's Eve will find me and my sweetie at a swanky, champagne-filled party, where we'll kiss passionately at the stroke of midnight, sing Auld Lang Syne (yes, I do know the words!), dance 'til dawn, then collapse blissfully into a slumber that lasts far into the first full day of our new year. Oh, and my dress? It's a little fuchsia satin & tulle number I found on sale at Saks. I have sassiest gold heels to decorate my feet, as well. Scott will be wearing a tuxedo, and while he'll be devastatingly handsome, we all know a tux is a tux...but a fuchsia dress? Well, that's a force to be reckoned with, my friends.

Sigh...

Yeah, this is the scenario I pray for every single New Year's Eve. I've always longed to dance the night away while sipping the bubbly and eating canapes to my heart's delight. The dream would be complete if Harry Connick, Jr. and Kings of Leon were performing live, for my jitterbugging pleasure.

Alas, the dawn of each new year finds me in bed, wearing sweats, waiting for that big ol' ball in Times Square, lamenting the day Ryan Seacrest began co-hosting New Year's Rockin' Eve & wondering why Fergie, Fall Out Boy, and Rihanna have to lip sync their "special performances." Dick Clark, I'll love you until the day I die. Inspite of all this.

We may not have spectacular plans for Wednesday night, but I do have a spectacular playlist for 2009. In my head I'll be whirling and twirling to these tunes. In the dress & heels. Because grown-ups can pretend too, you know.

Happy 2009, everybody!!!!

*OK, so Blogger refuses to cooperate with my playlist. Sorry. Here's the rundown--and the list, which I wanted front and center, is over there on the right. Good times.

"Creator"--Santogold
"Got To Be Real"--Cheryl Lynn
"Sex On Fire"--Kings of Leon
"Live Your Life"--TI, featuring Rihanna

New Year's Eve is Katie's birthday. And I usually have a house full of squealing girlies. We are actually going to celebrate tonight - and then she is going to a girl scout lock in for her birthday. If only I could get someone to ask Madalyn to spend the night, I might have a night out on the town. Or at least a liberating experience. :-)

Taking a break from my Lost Season 4 marathon to drop by. I'll be in my jammies ringing in the New Year along with my 11 year old daughter and her giggling, squealing friends. Hopefully the 17 month old and 2 year old will be asleep (please dear God!) and the jury's still out on what the 5 year old will be doing.

Happy New Year to you too!

I got invited to a lovely Republican Lesbian New Years Eve party but my mom will be here so we'll be home... watching I Carly I imagine.

I too dream of that party. *sigh* Some day.....

Happy New Year, Lula. May all your New Year's dreams come true.

Even the fuschia dress and gold heels!

You rock in the new year any way you want, you will still have a good time.

We will be spending new years eve with hubbys granny. She is 93 and recovering from breaking her hip a couple of month ago. We usually make a crab leg dinner but this year we are having pizza. LaRosas pizza, yummy and chicken wings. Then it's home with the kids to play board games and scratch off lottery tickets! Woohoo good times.

I dream of a night filled with romance and a party, but like you, I will be at my own home watching the ball drop too.

Oh well, it could be worse. =)

Never have had a New Year's like that...will put that on my bucket list I think:(

I love it! Why not play dress up and dance around your bedroom in heels?

My New Year's are exactly like yours....sitting at home watching other people party on TV. Yeah.

I'm with ya sista. At home just chilling with the fam watching the ball go down. Every year until I got into my 20's we did it big, got dressed up, rented out a banquet room in a nice hotel and partied. Then it got a little old. I like to watch the ball drop with the little guy now!

Re: your playlist - Got To Be Real is one of my all time favs in life. I jam and cook to it in the kitch! And I love some Outkast!!!!!

Happy New Year my friend!!!!!!

My New Years Dream...To be in New York City, right in the middle of Times Square when the ball drops! Everyone thinks I am crazy to want to be in that madness. I would love to be there just once and see how crazy it is!

I will be at Pam's for a party with friends!

This is also my new years dream....maybe one year? yeah right. Mr. S would SO not go for that. But maybe...

*sigh* I will be sleeping through the ball drop I imagine!!

Happy New Years!

You had me going. I was jealous of the fushia dress. Now all I can think about is finding one.

We spend every New Years at home. So this year we invited friends over and will be having "Party till you Pass Out" with friends and their kids. Play a little Wii, some airhockey, have a bonfire in the snow and burn the crispy tree, and eat drink and be merry!

Have a great one. Feel free to fly out and join us! Just don't forget the dress and the shoes. (I will confiscate those when you get here)

Your second version of New Year's is my preferred way of life.

Those late parties are not worth the morning hangovers.

Although the fuscia dress DOES sound like fun!!!

CaraBee said...

We are going to a party, although there won't be any fancy dresses or tuxedos. Sigh. Small consolation to not have to watch Ryan Seacrest who might just be the worst thing to happen to television. The new Dick Clark he is not.

Happy new years!

Happy New Year to you too- We are having a small soiree here at the Pond house- But hopefully, I will have my pjs on at midnight!

I love your pretend outfit and scenario. I may dream up something similar.

Kristin said...

I will be home with sweats on too. I usually can only keep myself awake until 12:03. Watch the ball drop his hubby and the kids and then off to sleep.

I have the same fantasy every year and have yet to have it come true!

I will be ringing in the New Year with our youth group at a lock-in at the church. Wanna come scare the daylights out of em? That would be awesome.

Girl, I don't even make it until midnight anymore. We are going to a kid-friendly party, then coming home by 9. Party.animals.

Ok that sounded bad but I am a fan of the Clark-man and miss him every year. I will be in my sweats as well, by choice.

you're safer at home anyway ;)

Love the playlist. Love you. And I want to wear a Black strapless number with silver heels. Can I? I wanna go sip champagne and dance the night away. Please oh please.

Lula you are just not wishing hard enough for the both of us.

Happy New Year Darlin!

ParentingPink said...

You're my kinda gal - Michael Jackson and Blondie on one play list totally rocks :-)

Alas, I will have to force myself to watch Ryan Seacrest too this New Years Eve. I do like the idea of a swanky, sassy fuchsia satin dress from Saks though. Hmm, maybe we can get one and watch Seacrest together in it? LOL

Have a great New Years!

Ash said...

Justin Timberlake is featured in a Duran Duran tune. Is that even possible on the space-time continuum?

I'm so lame.

Happy New Year dear Lula!!

(Did you know that Ryan Seacrest is only like 33 years old? Deal with the Devil, that one.)

The boob shot was gratuitous and totally for you.

This post has me rolling, cause
EVERY year, I wish that same scenerio... worst part is that that exact party (less Harry C) is going on right up the street at one of the beautiful wineries... oh the irony.

Unknown said...

Wait. I pray for that same scene every year too, but somehow end up watching some animated movie in my bed with the family, eating popcorn and candy, and playing the wonderful game of hide and go seek. Maybe next year.

Elena said...

Can't get enough of "Be Gentle". I've never heard that song before, I LOVE it. Thanks for sharing.

Shannon said...

Well, we'll just have to find another occasion for you to wear your little fuchsia dress and gold heels, now wont' we?

Our plans for New Year's Eve have been the same for the past few years...

We go out to eat at a Japanese steakhouse with Shane's two brothers and their families. Then we meet back at my BIL & SIL's house... the cousins all play together while we adults play games like Scene It? or card games.

Sadly, we're usually home well before midnight.

I miss Dick Clark, too. I just told Eric that the first thing I'm doing when we move back to NY is throwing a fancy New Year's Eve party in which you and your Man must come. Dress, heels, tux & all. I'm doing it. I promise.

: )

This playlist? Pure bliss.

Sissy said...

We are watching the Matrix with some people who haven't seen it and playing games tonight. I wonder if we'll actually make it to midnight. I hardly ever do.

Tony C said...

Dick Clark's still around...he just goes by Carson Daly now.

I'm downloading the Duran Duran/Timberlake song now. I have to hear it to believe it.

Happy New Years!!!

Heather said...

Okay, thanks so much for finally sharing your playlist! I am so jealous of your musical prowess...you and Michelle totally have that in common. So now I can copy your songs and feel "Lula-cool". Yep, I made that word up, and it's gonna stick.

I may even do a post about it. 'Cause I love you that much.

Happy New Year. I'm so glad that 2008 was the year that brought us together, first in the blogosphere, then in real life. Can't wait to see what 2009 has in store...

What? No black tie events in Pennington Gap? That's a shame. As Debbie Gibson used to say...

Bad Blogger! And I was sooooooo looking forward to hearing some of your tunage...Especially Atomic. Blondie is the Best! I'll get the fuchsia dress one of these days. For tonite, I have to content myself with viewing the crystal ball, sipping champagne, and waiting for the kids to come in from their revels. It's hell being a Mom of incredibly social teenagers! Hope you and yours have the Happiest of New Years!

Happy New Year, LulaBelle!
I forgot to watch the ball drop. I was busy jacking around with Photoshop.

Sigh. Great way to start off the new year, no?

May your 2009 be blissful and blessed!

Sigh... we didn't get to watch the ball drop this year, and I think our countdown was a bit late... My New Year smooch was a half hour belated, but I think this will be a good year... :) I was really hoping for a pic of that fuchsia number...

Unknown said...

It is a little stressful watching Dick Clark these days..but, Ryan Seacrest?? I mean it's just sad..who could EVER BE Dick Clark?
(Sigh).

I love your story..and your dress. It sounds fabulous. I did the same thing as you.. maybe next year we should ring it in - together..and we'll really buy those dresses...and go somewhere!!

Well, we just might get on Ellen yet! I'm composing a missive to the generous Ms. DeGeneres, even as I type this to you. Well, in my mind, anyway!
