It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year!

When I was a child there was nothing more exciting than coming home from a day at school to discover the Sears Wish Book in our mailbox. Oh, happy day! My brother and I would fight to see who'd get to peruse its pages first. And I'd always win because he'd get distracted by He-Man...or maybe it was She-Ra's boobs. Whatever.

I'd curl up on our couch with that coveted Wish Book, a Debbie Cake (as we call "Little Debbie" treats in the south), and an enormous glass of milk, and oooh & ahhhh my joyous way through each flip of its pages.
This entire scenario was pure childhood bliss. I remember it so fondly.

Alas, now I am an adult. And the Sears Wish Book no longer holds sway over me. Because it has been replaced...

I give you The Mother Ship's Holiday 2009 Catalogue!
Mine arrived in yesterday's mail. After putting my girls to bed, I curled up on the couch. Instead of Debbie Cakes and milk, I had a more grown-up snack of Shiraz and a bunch of mini Snickers from the girls' Halloween loot. I'm not ashamed to admit this, either. I'm also not ashamed that I earmarked nearly every other delightful page of this year's holiday offerings.*

Stila and Cargo and NARS, OH MY!

It's pure "grown up" bliss!

And it is, indeed, the most wonderful time of the year. Sing it, Andy!

No one does it better than Mr. Williams. No one. Don't even try it.

*Dear family members who read Lulaville but never comment...you know Sephora gift cards are always appreciated, for both birthday and Christmas. Thank you. Love, Me.

You were totally on my mind yesterday as I passed Sephora and took a pit stop into the Brighton store at the mall yesterday.

Yes, I have a Sephora twenty minutes away, and I have yet to step foot in the place. I'm scared. Overwhelmed. Afraid I'll never leave. Maybe I'll ask for a gift card, too, and then I'll have to go in.

Isabel loved Brighton, though. And although dolls and Barbies are no longer on her wish list, she's too young for makeup. This is going to be a hard year for Christmas...

What are you getting your girls this year?

My parents used to give my brother and I $10 per year for the Wishbook, and I often hoarded mine for years until it added up. Just the idea that I could buy whatever I wanted was just such freedom.

I also used to play this game with the Sears catalog where I had to decorate my whole house from it. I would mark the pages and pour over it for hours. Oh my. Such memories.

We have an Ulta here in Gboro and I think it is similar to Sephora. It is a wonderland of makeup and hair products and has a hair salon in the back. It's huge. Their own line of lipstick is marvelous.

Oh, how I love Andy Williams.

When Shane and I first met, he had no clue who Andy was... can you believe it?! I set him straight... otherwise that would have been grounds for dumping him. Like a sack of taters.

I think I'd still like the Sears catalog :)

Wonderful childhood memory...I was crushed when Sears started charging for the Wishbook because I found myself too cheap for just nostalgia sake.

Brings back alot of good memories! My sister and I would always take turns about and circle everything that we wanted. Like you, we always looked forward to that day when the catalog arrived in the mail.

I love this time of year!

WHERE DO I GET THAT CATALOGUE?...I am a lotions and potions HO (spelling?, well, if there is a proper spelling for that word). Why does it not come to my home? I have 5 daughters and this book does not come to my house. For pity sake, does the mailman not feel the estrogen emanating from our premises?

Not to brag, but we have a Sephora just 10 minutes from my house. I'm not going to say it's why we bought the house, but...

For us, it was Spiegel. Two girls, a single mom, oh yeah, those were the days.

I can just feel your bliss.

Do you know that I do not know Sephora. There is not one around here so I have never been. Perhaps someday I will change all this.

When I was a kid it was the JCPenney Christmas catalog that had me up at night with a flashlight under my covers in bed wishing and dreaming. My birthday is in Dec ... so I double circled everything in the book!

Did I tell you that going in Sephora almost makes me have a panic attack? There are always so many people that I get a bit claustrophobic and I then I start to sweat and drool over all the goodies. My heart races. I'm sure I must lose about 6 pounds just from the elevated heart rate! We also have an Ulta store, have you heard of it? ... similar ... but still not Sephora caliber.

YOU ALREADY HAVE ME IN THE MOOD FOR XMAS! But it's still 85 here in FL so it's been hard for me to even get in the mood for Fall!

I remember how much you love Sephora as many other women do yet I have never been in one. One day. I guess your Sephora is my Harry & David perhaps? Or Williams Sonoma?

I have never been to Sephora since there isn't one close to us. :(

I am sheltered.

The Mother Ship calls to me with her siren song. Le sigh. I need some Urban Decay. It needs me too. Did you see Ulta has their OPI buy two get two free???

Too funny, as I scrolled to this post, I've got Amy Grant singing in the background, "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" No kidding. Too funny. Anyway, I remember going through the catalogs w/my siblings and placing "dibs" on toys and such throughout them. We'd fight over things too if we "dibbsed" things faster, etc. Such good memories! Have a great SITS day.
