Settle Down, People!

WARNING: If you have NOT seen New Moon, please read no further. If you have viewed the movie, please continue...and please comment accordingly.

For the record, I would like to praise God. Don't ever even hint that He doesn't answer prayer. Truly He does, as the fasting and praying completely paid off.

I loved the movie.
Yes, I'll say it again.
I loved it.
New Moon was fantastic.
From henceforth, the first movie shall be renamed
SUCKLIGHT.

Now, the movie wasn't perfect...I have very small, very minor complaints about stuff that's better thought of as bygones. No big deal, y'all. We'll agree to move on and realize that no book to film adaptation is perfection. Not even my dearly beloved Gone With the Wind.

However, the Twitters and bloggers and general inhabitants of the intrawebs all seem to be dissing one particular scene in New Moon. A scene I happened to really enjoy:
The "frolicking," as it appears to have been named
by Twilight die-hards.

Whatever.

Yes, the wardrobe is cheesy...I admit that. But seriously, people...what part of Breaking Dawn (which this scene references, of course) wasn't cheesy? Esme gifts the couple with a freakin' cottage! Bella hunts in a blue silk dress! And what part of their child's name didn't clue you into this story becoming one huge Swiss Colony fromage fest?* And clearly, Bella & Edward are wearing Valentino's Cottage Collection, available Fall of 2011.

Just love them through it, y'all. Love that we got a teeny taste of Bella Cullen...all golden-eyed (thanks, Jamie!) and sparkly and flushed from delicious vampire lovin'.

Is all I'm saying.

Because I loved it. The expression on her face, in this scene, is nothing short of pure satisfaction. Bella is all but screaming, "Yeah, I tapped that. Deal with it!" Word.

When you really break it down, some woodland "frolicking" is minor when compared to the monstrosity that was Sucklight. I mean, really...

My work here is done. Discuss amongst yourselves, please.

*I am not dissing Breaking Dawn. I loved the final chapter of Bella and Edward's story. I'm not a hater, just a recognizer of ridiculousness. Ridiculousness that I deeply loved. That is all.

This is why I need you in my life...always.

After you put it that way, I am so down with that scene. She totally does look she just tapped that...even in that weird dress.

And, I like Edward's outfit. I dunno why people are hatin' on that piece.

Love you long time.

Also Loved it! Loved this post.

"Swiss Colony fromage fest" -> Brilliant. I could not have described it better myself even if I knew how to spell better. :)

And I also must confess to being "a recognizer of ridiculousness. Ridiculousness that I deeply loved." as Brookelockart will tell you. I see the rediculousness and point it out, but nontheless still love it, for some unknown reason.

I had some minor-easy-to-look-over complaints about the movie. But... I left feeling all gooey and jello like. It did what it had to do for me.
I felt uncomfortable in the "frolicking" scene. It didn't seem like our typical Bella but it also was a vision meant for the Volturi.
So, anyway....
The best part for me (because I laughed so hard) was when Jacob took off his shirt to wipe off Bella's forehead. The entire teen section of the theater sighed and swooned and then we all broke out in hysterics b/c it was perfectly timed and innocent. I couldn't even hear the words they were saying on screen b/c everyone was laughing sooo hard.
Taylor did a good job on buffing up... let's eat some cake on his abs and then lick off the crumbs. It would be a fun party.
Cheers

Valentino's Cottage Collection --> Major WIN.

Thank you for appealing to the fashionista in me.

I might *try* to like the scene more upon further viewings. I did enjoy her sparkle & amber eyes yesterday at round 2.

I think Kristen looks 12 in that scene so I really think Robward is running away b/c Chris Hansen is closing in behind him......

Brooke Lockart said...

First, where did you find that screen shot? I was googling away yesterday, but maybe I googled Edward and Bella Frolicking and my search results weren't turning up much. =P

I loved getting a glimpse of her as a Vampire. I believe her eyes were golden in the movie when I expected them to be red (as a new born vamp) but then I realized the audience wouldn't get that, they would think she's been snacking on some humans.

Was it a little cheesy? Yes, but I loved it regardless. Edward loves to run, B would be running along with him.

PS, total win on "And clearly, Bella & Edward are wearing"

HUGS!

SO true Lula...

I was happy that we got to see a teensy ounce of vampire Bella that we weren't expecting- so while it looked cheesy I much rather have a cheesy frolicking scene than no glimpse of vampire future at all

I was not at all squicked by the frolicking in the forest scene. Amused, yes, but not to the point of deriding it. My take on the wardrobe selection is that CW was trying to evoke something of book-Bella's "Anne of Green Gables" fantasy. While technically that doesn't come about until Eclipse, it kind of made sense to me. That and all along CW said he was taking a more traditional, romantic approach to the story - something he def carried through with.

"I'm not a hater, just a recognizer of ridiculousness. Ridiculousness that I deeply loved." EXACTLY!! And I giggled during the frolick scene...

Lulu: you go girl...I couldn't have said it better myself! I thought the scene made sense in that once she is finally turned, not only is she "well loved", she is so at peace. I thought it was a great scene!

I am glad that you loved the movie. I need to see it.

Staci said...

OMG your killin me smalls!! I too enjoyed that part, and its funny cause i almost stood up and yelled at the massses of people behind me snickering....I think it was PERFECT, it was exactly what i pictured them wearing!! soo with you....my only complaint is that i wish they made the movie longer...they try to pack sooo much of the story into the movie that you loose the intimacy and depth of the characters.....ugh MAKE IT THREE HOURS ALREADY!!! i mean harry pizzle was three hours!! sheesh....anyway, loved it!!

btw im still loving this design, its my fav that ive ever done....:)

Sorry, adding more. This is the argument I just made to a work friend after sharing your blog:

I think she (Bella) will eventually be shown as more of a "spectacular Vamp". That scene in NM could have been 100 years later and Bella and Edward could have been acting in a play as hanzel and grettle. Who knows? It didn't have to be interpreted as her first moments as a vamp. And besides if it was her initial moment as a vamp, then her eyes would have been red.

Anyhow that is all.....I am now "fake lawyer" defending on behalf of CW. Love me and Let's Do this.

I really liked the movie too, but people in my theater laughed at that scene. I guess I thought it was pretty funny, too, seeing them like that, when they haven't worked up to that part yet.

Some of my friends said they really loved the first one, and I just couldn't understand it. I mean, the first one was just not up to par. It just wasn't. There were some nice scenes, but this one was soooo much better. I mean, they actually went to Italy and all.

I am glad to know that your faith in the movies has been restored.

kelly anne said...

oh i am so relieved... i thought i was the only one who liked the "frolicking" i thought it was awesome.... :)

sucklight? haha oh man... love it.

Ashton Dene' said...

That is so not my favorite scene in the movie, I felt it was cheesy, however it is totally all SM and her version of Bella and Edward. So I can deal since CW stayed true to SM and her vision. I have decided after reading the awesomeness that is this blog post and discussing with my friend Beth, I will love it for what it is...these two characters in love being all post-coital vampy-vamps. Thanks as always for helping me see the light.

x, ash

..and Sucklight. Total win.

All I'm saying is... Alice would rather get her head ripped off and thrown in a fire, before she let Bella wear that dress.

I'm down with the frolicking.. and the whole tap that stuff.. just THE DRESS.

You know I loved the movie. Loved it. Yes there are a few issues but who cares! It was a bajillion times better.

When I saw this I told one of my friends ....Dude who's to say when this happens. It could be a hundred years from now and that could be all the rage...

xoxo

I enjoyed it, but I actually liked the first one better. I thought they jumped into it too quickly. I was also just a tad disappointed that the plane scene on the way back from Italy wasn't in the movie. That was kind important to me. Just sayin'.

You crack me up. Jacob/Taylor was ah-mazing. Loved him. Loved the Volturi in all their wickedness.

All in all, I'm satisfied.

Kristen said...

Listen, in my world, I'd frolick through the woods in a potato sack if I could tap that vampire. I'm just sayin.

Loved. it. This film redeemed all the horribleness we had to endure last time. The day the fasting began.

Jen said...

This post made me smile more than New Moon!! I loved reading your take on it. Honestly that frolicking scene didn't bug me that much either. Yes, I was surprised by their outfits but it was so quick that I didn't have time to let it bother me too much. I like your assessment of Bella's look of pure bliss due to having lots of vampire sex!! So true!!

I do have to say that our overall opinion on the movie is very different. I wanted to love it, but I just couldn't. I still feel the Edward/Bella connection was lacking something. I'm starting to think that the chemistry between Kristen and Rob just isn't strong enough or they aren't good enough actors to pull it off. Or maybe it is the fact that the original Sucklight movie didn't build enough of a foundation. I just feel like they could have spent some more time on this development at the beginning of this movie just to right the wrongs of the first one. I agree with Staci who said that the movie should be 3 hours if necessary. It just seemed too rushed to get all the scenes in and lacked the intimacy of the books. :(

Nichole said...

I saw the movie yesterday and agree that it was sooo much better made than Twilight.

Almost everyone in the theater laughed when that "frolicking" scene played. I was kinda surprised by their reaction. Cheesy yes, funny? No.

CaraBee said...

I completely forgot about that scene. It was so quick and transitory that it didn't really register as something so important. I don't understand people making such a fuss about it.

Reading the other comments, I have to agree that they really should have spent a little more time on the Bella-Edward love story, even if it meant making it a longer movie. Maybe that's why I've not gotten the whole Robert Pattinson/Edward craze is that based solely on the movies, not the books, his character is pretty shallow. And the chemistry between them is lacking, in my opinion. I've tried to explain that to myself by saying that because I don't find him physically attractive, that it colored my opinion, but there are plenty of actors that I don't find *attractive* but I think are hotty mchots. (Woody Harrelson, anyone?) Maybe its the old they're sleeping together in real life so there's no chemistry on screen. I don't know. Whatever it is, I don't *feel* the love between them. And since that's the basis of the whole story, it kind of hard to overlook.

Having said all of that. This movie was SO much better than the first one and I really did enjoy it. But then, we got to see a lot of topless Taylor Lautner, so that might have something to do with it. :)

I don't believe I could have said it better myself :) I loved New Moon and I am counting down the days til Eclipse! Hope you're having a fabulous night, lady! xoxo

Saw it today. I liked the "frolicking" scene. But it was cheesy how Edward always "walked to music".. so funny.
I think the reason why I feel "lack of love or obsession in the movie" is because there isn't very good acting going on. Though I must say the the "acting" did get better in this movie.
Was it just me or was the kissing scene in Twilight so much better then the awkward kissing in front of her house. Strange.
I look forward to Eclipse!

I'm seeing it next weekend...I know, I'm pathetic. But I'll keep my eye out for the frolicking scene :)

Caroline said...

Good, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who hasn't seen New Moon yet (thank you Jennifer P!). Don't hate, just remember that I have a nursing newborn. I did read the post because I've read all the books and know what you're talking about when referencing "tapping that". I really want to see it soon. Maybe I'll get to see it over Thanksgiving in Charlotte. Hope you're good - would love to talk to you soon!

Shannon said...

I'd wondered what you thought about the movie...

I agree, the fasting and praying has paid off. No, the movie wasn't perfect... but it was a LOT better than the 1st one.

Eclipse was my favorite book of the series... so I'm excited to see that one next summer!

Brandy said...

I just saw it yesterday. True to my word, I waited til I was ready to go and had the time.

I agree it was MUCH, MUCH better. Thank goodness cause I don't think I would have survived another massacre.

There were things I could nitpick, but I forgot about them and focused on the good. By the end of the movie I felt like I did when I read the books. My heart was breaking for Jacob and I wasn't ready for the movie to end.

Live.Love.Eat said...

I can't believe you know what they were wearing in the woodland frolicking. Amazing. So glad you liked the movie. I really enjoyed it!!!

Claremont First Ward said...

I actually loved their outfits in that scene.....and liked it.

I liked New Moon. But. I thought it was kind of boring.

I've come to the conclusion that I just don't like seeing movies made from books I've read. I don't like knowing the whole story line before hand. :)

And. I miss you.

Brandi said...

You are seriously too awesome. I am having so much fun reading your blog. This post made me laugh so much.

(And I agree with you about Breaking Dawn. Totally.)

Laura said...

OK I have to finish the book quickly so I can see the movie!

Jenn Brockman said...

Everyone in our theater was giggling and I haven't read the books, so I didn't get why.... other than it seemed out of place.

Yeah, HOTDOG, okay, wolf... my daughter told me he was hot but I had NO idea!

I've been a vamp girl since Anne Rice (yeah, I'm that age) but I might be persuaded to love some werewolf.

Mrs. Match said...

Yay! I'm glad someone else loved New Moon too. The first movie...oh if only they could re-do it with this director. Seriously-he stuck pretty much true to the story but also managed to spice up New Moon, which was the WORST book of the series (Love Twilight, but that book was sooo emo). But the ending made it all worth it didn't it? And I love the frolicking scene! It looked so much like how I pictured Breaking Dawn, in all of its cheesy glory!

Shannon said...

Happy SITS day!

And I TOTALLY agree. LOVED every minute of it, ridiculousness and all.

Lynette said...

lol I agree with you on the scene. There was the brief "um WHAT?" when it appeared, then I relaxed and let myself love it for what it was.
Although, I do find myself hoping that the actual scene is a little less...so.

gina said...

Interestingly enough, I HATED the second book- it took me weeks to get through reading it, but the MOVIE ROCKED!!! And it was so much better than the first- heck just the trailer was better than the first. My daughter and I were sorely let down by the first one. That I shall now call sucklight. The third book was my absolute favorite (and I was a TEAM JACOB for the record) and now I have HIGH hopes for the film- counting the days til june 30th!!

Amanda said...

I completely agree with you! At some point you have to embrace the "cheesiness" moments of the Twilight series. The first time I saw the "frolicking" scene I thought it was silly but the second time, it took my breath away to think about Breaking Dawn (my favorite of all 4) and to see Bella in her eternal joy.

Emmy said...

I must admit I did find that scene pretty cheesy.. but like you said it is all a bit cheesy in the book.

All of that said I loved loved loved the movie! I have already seen it twice and really want to go see it again.

I Wonder Wye said...

Omm okay I'll go see it after saying I wouldn't after suffering through the first one......

Charlene said...

I haven't seen New Moon yet but I had to read what you wrote anyway. Now I REALLY want to see it!! Greetings from SITS!

Unknown said...

Is "the frolic" the official Twi-name? lol ... I keep calling it that also! I can't help but laugh when I see that scene. I loved New Moon WAY more that Twilight! So cheesy, but so awesome :)

BellaKarma said...

I hear ya, girl! The frolicking image happens to be my computer wallpaper! When I saw the scene in the movie, I thought "I know what y'all just did!" =)
