Oh, MTV...25 years of the Video Music Awards and it seems y'all still have a lot to learn. I refuse to comment on the show's host, as doing so would require a string of profanities to issue forth from my lips, and my Mama reads my blog. Let my silence speak volumes, peeps.
Moving on...I love me some Christina Aguilera, but I'd rather hear her sing live. Cough-cough. And the audience? I've never seen a more blase' group of industry types/artists/fans in my life. Most of them barely had the energy required to perform the perfunctory courtesy known as applause. Clearly the VMA attendees were rather unimpressed. Kinda like me.
There were many highlights of this year's show for me:
Pink rocked it out...loved the song, loved her sound, loved her look...L-O-V-E-D her.
Kid Rock announced, "No dancing, no lip-syncing!" before singing. And then he did his thing...live...for real. And I love him for it. By the way, this clip is of horrible quality--it was the best I could find on You Tube.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've gotta hand it to Ms. Britney, too...last night was the best she's looked in years. Plus she won 3 awards, so someone's got a comeback on the horizon.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kevin, Joe, and Nick had their VMA debut, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Young lads who write their own music, play their own instruments, vocalize well, and give a darn fine performance to boot are just fine and dandy with me. Yeah, I am a Jonas Brothers fan. What of it?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two words: Jordin Sparks. That's one classy lady, y'all. Again, refusing to acknowledge the atrocity that was the VMA's host...or his utterly tactless, tasteless, and unnecessary comments directed toward the three fine young men mentioned above. But thank you, Jordan Sparks, for being brave, classy, and sassy.

My final highlight of the evening coincides with one of my "low"lights:
The VMAs had some Twilight love, y'all! Robert Pattinson (Edward) and Kristen Stewart (Bella) were on hand to present during the ceremonies (along with two other actors from the movie). And they did attempt to introduce the group Paramore, however that thing-they-called-a-host rudely interrupted the Twilight gang's little tele-prompted speech and made the lot of 'em look rather perplexed and ridiculous. I was more than a little miffed. Don't be messin' with my Twilight peeps, MTV. For I will take you down. Down, I say.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Christina, I love you. I've been a fan since the days of "MMC." I adored the "Genie in a Bottle" redux and your new song, "Keeps Gettin' Better." But girl, you've got the pipes...why, oh why couldn't you perform live? Lip-synching is so Britney VMAs Circa 2007! I do love you...I just love you more when you keep it real.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
More "low"lights: the aforementioned apathetic audience (let's say that one three times fast!), the fact that I had no clue what Lil' Wayne was singing about(I liked it, though), and the final performance of the evening...Kanye West...dude you're "stronger" than that grand finale. I'm just sayin'. Oh, and did I mention the host for this particular awards ceremony? He sucked. The end.
My advice? Skip the reruns of this year's MTV Video Music Awards. It's not worth the two hours of your life that you'll lose. Oh, Pink, The Jonas Brothers, and Kid Rock were well worth my viewing efforts. The rest of the program? Not so much.

Well now I wish I would've tuned in, just to see the Twilight actors... though it sounds like I would've been miffed too by the host's behavior.
I wished I would have seen it too. Who was the host? I am intrigued. Nice shout out to Kid. :)
I really enjoyed the show, but how Britney won this year after never winning before when she was a really hot item is beyond me, but maybe they wanted to help her self-esteem after her performance last year. She does look great though. And yeah, Kid Rock is great! And that host, yikes!!
I totally agree with you on everything. I really can't believe that guy didn't even let Robert Pattinson finish his sentence (I think he is jealous).
Wow, I'm glad I chose to watch Trublood instead of the VMA's. I turned it on around 10p, but couldn't even stand it for a minute.
Call me.
Have I mentioned that I live under a rock? Now I have to google who hosted the awards.
And I cannot do Kid Rock and his song right now. I have to turn the station every time it comes on. Messin' with Warren Zevon...
Hmmm ... what did I watch last night? Can't remember, but it wasn't this. Now, I'm dying to know who the host was that was so horrible. Oh, yeah ... I went through my DVR list last night. I had a week's worth of Stephen Colbert and a Bryan Regan comedy hour to watch. So, who was the host that you disliked so much? You must tell me.
I can't believe I forgot about this last night!! Totally forgot...I would have watched parts. Damnit.
I too was disappointed with the Twilight love (or lack thereof).
Meanwhile, you definitely have the talent required for those magnets. Trust me. :D
I was flipping channels so I missed some, but the host... oh my GOSH... I have this thing on my DVR where you can play games and one of the things you can do is throw tomatoes at the screen... I was doing that to him. I'm WAY out of the loop these days so I don't even know WHO that moron is but GOOD LORD who thought he was a wise idea??
I did catch Brittney winning an award. She looked very nice, and... lucid.
And I caught Christina's performance. I'm sure she lip synced so she could dance, but honestly i would much rather hear her sing. But I'm SO loving that she... well... she's got a Mommy body now.. she looks healthy and real... for a while she was looking pretty sickly...
I'll stop rambling now.
Awe I missed it but I am sure to watch it in re-run. I do love the Jonas Brothers as my little 5 yo loves 'em. You'll be happy to know I am enthralled in Twilight!!!!!!!! 2 more hours until lunchtime when I will be reading more, more, more!!!!!!!!! This can't be healthy.............
I do not have a clue as to who was the host as I did not watch them. I watched Army Wives which I love. Interesting comments though...just saying!
thanks for posting, now I don't need to watch it. I have been watch MSNBC and they have been commenting on the host, so I think I have seen enough. Thanks for the clips.
I haven't watched the MTV awards in a couple of years because they've felt just like what you described here. Plus, I am so horribly out of the loop on pop music that I don't recognize half of the people. When did I turn into THAT old lady?
Ok, so I didn't miss anything while being isolated in my DVD/VHS only bubble? Nice to know.
So I didn't miss much. Good, I was too busy watching True Blood and I kinda forgot about it.
Thanks for the heads up...that's two hours I won't have to waste.
I hate not having cable.
I didn't watch! Not my thing, but I am getting old. I wouldn't have known any of the songs even if I had watched. Just an old "memaw" reading books and taking care of babies!
I caught a few minutes of that mess they called a show.
I couldn't get over how crappy that host was. I wouldn't let my kid watch the show - or MTV for that matter.
THose sweet Bros. Jonas looked stunned everytime the camera panned through to them.
I'm with you, I LOVED Pink and her new song. She totally rocked it last night. I liked Rihanna too. Have you seen the Disturbia video, it is disturbed!! And I also love the Jo-Bros. They are adorable and should be respected. I liked what Jordin Sparks did. The host really didn't seem too in-tune with things last night. Oh well, that's MTV for you!
Oh yeah, I was mad that Robert Pattinson didn't get a chance to even speak! UGH! Stupid host!
So there I was waiting and waiting, through all the commercials for the chance to see and hear Robert Pattinson (Edward)and what happens.......Bed Head Fred totally interupts him and he never gets to speak. Lula, I am with you on the looser they dug up for a host. What a total nightmare!!!!
I'm glad Brittney made an apearance after all the CRAP, it was big of her
Thanks for saving me 2 hours! Pink is WAY COOL! And I'll have to see about catching Kid Rock's performance. And those Jonas boys...too adorable!
I've heard from everyone that it was awful. I watched the beginning to see what Britney did and she looked great!
I was totally horrified by that joke of a host as well. How rude of him to walk into our country and act like that. Thanks for nothing, now please return to the UK.
Loved the performances though .. ditto on Christina. And love that I can go to MTV.com and just watch performances without all the trash. Makes for a much better show ;o)
My kids were excited for Britney. The Wild One, especially. When Brit won her first award, and came up to accept it, TWO said, "Awwww, look at Britney! She's normal again!!" Direct quote, I swear. Have I ever lied to ya?
Amen. And again I say Amen.
The host was as ridiculous as his hair and the show was rather dull. The performances were okay (although I LOVED Pink) and my beloved Paramour was good just because she has such awesome hair.
There weren't even any perplexing kisses. Nothin'.
Missed it, but enjoy your take on it!
I love Christina too. She is one of my fave female artists.
I so much love Kid Rock. I know he's dirty and grungy and often mulletty, but I'd do 'em.
huh. What? Where? Who?
hehehehe.........
didn't catch a snippet of it.
honestly, I didn't watch your clips either.
Still love you though!
Mutual?
See, now I don't even have to watch it. And, this, my dear is why I love you!
Darn, I missed it! That Tivo only works if you remember to set it. Wanted to see the JoBros. Yup, I'm a 30 something fan too.....blame my kids. I think it's great how Nick is becoming a role model for kids with diabetes, my daughter has it and he's her favorite.
