Today I Remember...

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

However you celebrate today...in the sun...in the pool...at the beach...grilling ribs and hot dogs, with family and friends...or even if you're at work and will hit the drive through at Sonic on your way home...however you choose to spend your day, please take a moment to remember what Memorial Day is all about.  We are blessed to live freely in these United States.  I'm grateful for the blood, sweat, and tears that have been spilled to preserve our freedom.

Happy Memorial Day to you and your family--from me and mine!

Sometimes, it just amazes me, the fact that I am even here...

My paternal grandfather was in the Army; my maternal grandfather was in the Navy (same with Shane's grandpas)...

How they survived the hell that was WWII... sometimes I can't even fathom it...

We had a beautiful day, enjoying the country that many have shed their blood and given their lives to protect.

What a beautiful poem. For all of those that weren't lucky enough to make it home. This day is a time to remember.

When I was young, people used to sell paper poppies for what we called Decoration Day. Everytime I see poppies it reminds me to be grateful for all those who have served for our freedom!

This was awesome Lula, but no surprise there. You always remind me of the importance of things when I am too wrapped up in what menu I will be fixing. Hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend!!!!

I have always loved that poem. Thank you so much for sharing it. And thanks to those brave men and women willing to die for me so I can have the peace and safety to grill a hot dog and run through the sprinklers with my kids.
