Anything Can Happen On Halloween...

If you've read Lulaville for any amount of time, you know that my most favorite actor in the history of the world is Tim Curry. If you're new to my world of randomness, I'll restate my love:

I adore him.

My very favorite Halloween movie features quite a performance by Mr. Tim Curry...and it's not the role you're thinking of:
Dr. Franknfurter, how I love thee!

Please don't misunderstand--I am crazy over Rocky Horror Picture Show. I own the DVD as well as the CD soundtrack of the movie. I don't get people who don't get RHPS. It's as simple as that. Sorry if I've offended you, but I gotta stay true to myself here. After all, it is my blog.

But that's not what I want to discuss.

My favorite Halloween flick is a little-known gem from the mid-1980's, called The Worst Witch, starring a young Fairuza Balk, Charlotte Rae (of TV's The Facts of Life), Diana Rigg, and yes...my beloved Tim Curry.

I describe it as "little known," because nearly every time I mention it--which is always during the Halloween season--invariably the person I'm speaking with will reply, "I have no idea what you're talking about."

TRAVESTY! Utter travesty, y'all!

My brother and I watched The Worst Witch on HBO throughout the 80's, and then on the Disney channel in the early 90's. When it became available on DVD about 10 years ago, we snatched it up as if the DVD case had diamonds embedded in its spine.

This little gem of a movie has terrible special effects, and the acting is not exactly the finest in the world. (Apologizes to the always amazing Diana Rigg, who saves the movie with her subtle yet campy portrayal of Miss Hardbroom.) In fact, the one word I'd use to describe The Worst Witch is cheesy. But it's adorably cheesy. And I love it.

Today, If you have not yet dropped any LSD and need to take an acidic trip, may I present to you now...Tim Curry as The Grand Wizard in the best little movie ever, The Worst Witch:

I've always thought that this musical number embodied what it must have felt like to have been at Woodstock.

Seriously.

Have you seen The Worst Witch? If so, please share your glee with me. If not, please do us both a favor and rent it! Or, share your favorite Halloween film with me. It won't be as cheese-tastic as a movie about a school for young witches, but I'll take your recommendations into consideration.

I HAVE seen that movie. And it was awesome. As Tim Curry is awesome. Seriously, he is one of my all time faves. What about his turn as the devil in Legend, a truly underrated flick, or his star-studded performance in Annie! But he will always be Franknfurter to me. Always.

I wonder if there's a midnight showing in Pigeon Forge?

OMG YES. I JUST posted the link to Anything Can Happen On Halloween on FB Monday.
Awesome Awesome movie. Fairuza Balk's career-defining moment, I say. I mean really, would she have gone on to greatness in The Craft were it not for the Worst Witch?
I THINK NOT.

Oh my.

We were po in the '80s, so no HBO for us, but I can see the attraction.

To Tim Curry that is. Meeoooow. The Grand Wizard Seducer - bad Tim. Very bad.

I feel the need to rent Clue.

Okay, I have not heard of this movie and those effects rock. LOL! My all time favorite, hands down, is NIghtmare Before Christmas. I put it in the truck's DVD player Oct. 1 and listen to it (while kids watch) all month long. I was just thinking yesterday that I have a serious crush on little Jack Skelington.

I HAVE seen it! And I loved it. I haven't seen it in decades though so I'm headed over to put it in my queue RIGHT. NOW.

And FYI my favorite Christmas special on HBO was Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas. Amen.

{Adding that to the queue too.}

Okay, so maybe we don't have the same taste in movies.... =)

But, that's okay....

I'll forgive you.

I still remember the first time I ever saw RHPS...I was like, what was that?! Oh my word.

Hey, did you get my text? 'Cause when I woke up this afternoon to a humongous bouquet of flowers courtesy of my best blogger friend in the world, I sent her a text right away.

Thank you so much! You rock. I cannot wait to see you again in TWO WEEKS!!!

That song's got a good beat but sadly, I have never seen that movie. I am so boring I know. Wish I could be more like you and be passionate about a Halloween movie but I don't even have a favorite.

I like a good Curry though and Tim is definitely one of 'em!!!!

I totally remember! They played it every year on HBO, I watched it at least a dozen times every year! I loved the little kitten they gave her!

i loved this movie so much and I love tim curry! BUT I'm more of a Return to Oz fan. My mom always thought it was too bizarre and would give me nightmares when I was little but I still loved it even if it did. The best!

I have seen both movies and a HUGE fan. Tim Curry is absolutely brilliant! Your newest SITSa and stalker. ;)

Hey there stranger! It's been a while but I'm back in the blogosphere! Hope you and the girls had a wonderful Halloween (minus Tim Curry of course!).

I too LOVE, LOVE the Rocky Horror Pic Show. A classic! Now I'm going to have to go see The Worst Witch - I'm up for a little Cheese every once in a while :-)

Oh, btw, the link to my blog isn't working anymore - my new site is up and you can grab a new button under ("About", then "Grab our button")

I thought I was the ONLY one that saw that movie!

Oh, man. I heart Tim Curry, too. And the RHPS DVD is on my Xmas list.

I just stumbled onto your blog thru MamaKat. I love Tim Curry (even when I hate the movie) and I did not know that there were so many of us. Have you listened to his reading of the books A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snickett? Even if you have read the books, find the CDs and listen.

I love Tim Curry too. And he has aged well. I've never seen a man look as good in a corset as he does.

HAPPY SITS DAY!!
