For Christmas, Actually...

I love the holiday film classics and have already watched Home Alone 1 & 2 (with my beloved Tim Curry, of course!), Christmas Vacation, White Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street, and It's A Wonderful Life this month.

OK, some more than once. Alright...some more than twice.

Usually classified as a romantic comedy, one movie in particular is a favorite of mine this time of year. The entire film takes place during the month of December. And I adore it. Some of my favorite actors--most of whom are Brits--are in this particular flick, too. Jennifer P.--I thought of you while viewing this and you know why. Yeah, he's in it.

I watched this for the zillionth time just the other day and thought of y'all. Yes, you bloggy people that I enjoy tremendously. And I had an epiphany: Wow--I need to give this away on my blog. So here I am...giving it away...just in time for Christmas, too.

While I'm at it, I'm thinking someone needs a $20 giftcard to Starbucks. Yes, you do. Merry Christmas from me.

A great, warm & fuzzy movie* (with the requisite dramatic and tearful moments, of course) and some fabulous Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate from the 'Bucks. Or whatever you desire to order...but that hot chocolate is hard to beat, I'm telling you. So comment away--and I'll choose a winner on Friday.

I so love Hugh Grant...especially when he gets down with his bad self. You must watch him.

*p.s. Necessary Disclaimer: Love Actually has nudity in it--if that kind of thing offends you, then you might not enjoy this film. But it's funny nudity...seriously...I wouldn't steer you wrong. Promise.

Alright, here I am. Never seen the movie.........that seems to be the resounding line in my life anytime you suggest something, but I know we'd be together IRL, we'd just live on love, not similiarities.

But, since number one never wins, I'm gonna come back and comment again, okay!!

Am I the first to comment????

Truly, I must be the only one who loves you! So, pick me!

Just Lisa said...

Oh dang, I was the second. I type too slow. But I still love you the most!

I haven't seen Love Actually in so long! I'm always on the look out for "new" Christmas movies, meaning not the ones you see on TV every single year, over, and over and over again.

SHUT THE BACK DOOR.

GIRL. I LOVE THIS MOVIE.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE.

I've seen it a gazillion times. At the end, when the beach boys sing, "God Only Knows" and they show all the airport lovin'... I BAWL.

Okay, now I love you even more.

That clip is hilarious....and I've never seen that movie....but I will now!! And who doesn't love some S'bucks??!! I haven't actually tried that particular drink but sounds like a good one to add to my list.

Pick me, choose me, love me.
Yeah, I like Hugh Grant, especially in Two Weeks Notice with my fav Sandra Bullock.

I can't believe I've never seen this movie. I love romantic comedies. Sign me up, chick :D

Okay Lula, like our shared love for Almost Famous, this movie Love Actually is at the top of my list. I love this movie so much. I remember the first time I saw it, accidentally sitting on my couch alone and I couldn't move for the entire time. The whole thing. Hugh rocks. I love when he's in the cab with the kid in the octopus costume. I love that there is an octopus costume for the Holiday play. I love when that little girl sings. I love the whole entire thing. Yes, I do!

Hell with the movie, I just want the Starbucks. I gotta try that hot chocolate, sounds delish!

Tami said...

I just ordered Home Alone from Netflix - my girls have never seen it.....and I'm ashamed.

I have to try that hot chocolate especially since you keep promoting it :)

The hazelnut one, eh, not so
good :(

I don't think I've seen Love Actually. sigh. Now, Starbucks, that's something I've seen. And loved. Loved well.

Great movie!! Sign me up baby!!!

Caroline said...

Never seen that movie, but it looks great (I'm basing everything off Hugh's fabulous dance scene). He's got the white boy shimmy down.

I really think I need to win, if anything out of pity for not having a St. Arbucks here in the 'boro...and for not having seen the movie.

BTW, I think you should do a giveaway of the GREAT Kate Beckinsale movie you told me about recently. Your readers would thank you.

Heather said...

Okay, I know I probably won't win, and I'm probably just gonna buy it (as we discussed), but...

I want a STARBUCKS GIFT CARD!!!

So, go on, enter my name. And if you pick Michelle, then cheat and give it to me. Hey, we're blood-related...it wouldn't even really be cheating.

Hope your mac-n-cheese was delish yesterday! I was drooling into my cell phone just listening to you talk about it :)

When I was at the grocery store yesterday (there's a Starbucks in it), I wanted so badly to get one of your Salted Caramel Hot Cocoas but I was in a desperate shoe finding frenzy and felt guilty stopping. Next time definitely. Love Actually is great! I haven't seen it in a while, I'll have to queue it up for a showing.

This is a great movie, I am suprised by how many haven't seen it. It is one emotional two hour roller coaster ride.

Gosh, I LOVE this movie and I DO have it so no need for me to take someone's spot. Hugh Grant in this scene is so much better than Tom Cruise's Risky Business undies dancing. I love that you love this movie too!!!!!!!!!!!! And I have a little thing for that guy who shows up at the door with the sign. I always found him sooo dang cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE this movie...I'll watch it in the middle of July, just because...you definitely shouldn't limit its viewing to the holiday season! My fav is either Hugh Grant or Colin Firth in this movie - so hot! If I win (that would be a small miracle)...I want you to give away the movie to one of the other commenters who hasn't seen the movie...their lives are incomplete without it!

Mama Dawg said...

I ADORE this movie and I haven't seen it this year yet.

What is wrong with me? LOL!

I'll put it on my to-do list.

It's impossible for a movie to be bad when they have the Pointer Sisters playing. Impossible.

Okay, didn't like Love Actually, except for that darling little dance scene with Hughie. He is just darlin'. My favorite movie is 2 weeks notice with Sandy B. Love. Love. Love that movie. I don't need to be entered in this one, but still wanted you to know I love you. :) Jingle Jingle...

This is destined to be a holiday classic. In my book it already is. I absolutely love it, even the painful scene with Mr. Bean and the wrapping.

Denise Grover Swank said...

Lula, you have to pick me. I am ADDICTED to Starbucks. In fact I wrote of my addiction on my blog months ago in a post titled Intervention.

http://www.theresalwaysroomforonemore.com/2008/09/intervention.html

I call it the love affair destined to be written of in blogs, mine and in other people's with the comments I leave.

What is it with all these people who have NOT seen this movie?!!?!?!? What have they been waiting for?!!?!?! It's great! I love all the storylines... I think my fav ones are with Jamie & Aurelia and Sarah ( love love love Laura Linney) & Karl (hellooooo, Rodrigo Santoro... YUM!)

I have not yet tried the Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate... but it sounds de-lish! I'll have to get one, even if I don't win the giftcard ;)

Super Good Movie!! Love that dance scene! I want more, more, more!

Mmmmm Starbucks too, only if a girl could be so lucky!

Elena said...

Okay, enter me! I could use a good movie I've never seen to while away the hours of the FREEZING temps here. (Negatives, highs in the single digits...brrrr.) And a hot chocolate sounds mighty tasty right about now. That clip made me laugh right out loud. So funny. And I keep forgetting to tell you that I bought The Hunger Games for myself for Christmas. Can't wait!

FROGGITY! said...

You have my exact taste in movies!! I do enjoy Love Actually... I just fastforward the nude scenes (I'm not into those, I can barely even handle onscreen kissing!!) it's so sweet.

You and I must see eye to eye on entertainment!! :)

34 MORE DAYS!!!!!! (I had a Sawyer dream the other night, that's how excited I am... lol)

FROGGITY! said...

...not a bad dream... a funny one... just needed to clarify... ooh, also sign me up for the starbucks!!

I quite enjoyed watching Mr. Grant shake his groove thang this morning!!

Hugs!

Can you believe I've never seen this movie? How can that be possible? It has Colin Firth in it ... and Alan Rickman ... I love them. Not to mention Emma Thompson ... I love her too! Did I mention Colin Firth? Oh yeah. He's the one. For me. Whew.

So you gotta pick me, so I can take myself out of the "loser-who's-never-seen-this-movie" category. You'd be doing me a big favor! :-)

Swirl Girl said...

Actually - I love this movie!

Hubby and I watch it whenever it's on...

and who doesn't love Hugh Grant?

I love this movie. Shockingly I don't own it, why is that? I need to rememdy this ASAP.

This is how I would know you'd love "About A Boy". That is an awesome movie -- plus we need to have a popcorn party in which we critique Chris Weitz's directorial skills in an effort to bring a better NM to screen. Not that we are the final say on such things.

But we should be. So, we will pretend.

<3, Kristen

P.S. I wrote an epic email to you last night and then gmail decided it loathed the day I was born and just erased it. I sat in shock for over an hour and will later today try to recreate my witty ways from yesterday. Though I doubt it will work.

Britt said...

*sigh* Hugh .. not only are you too old for me, I'm thinking you're probably better in the movies than in real life. But I love you anyway.

My mom agrees with me on this .. but makes fun of my Tom Hanks crush. Haters! =-)

Oh, and here I was thinking I had seen this movie .. But no, I haven't. Must add to the movie list, right away.

ok. this movie has the most romantic scene EVER FILMED. the poster scene. and i'm a guy...

but, i must admit, that i was forced by a female sitting next to me to play the hugh grant shaking his tushy scene a number of times. i think i shall have to go buy her a copy of it so she casn watch the hiney hopping to her hearts content. while i'm not there.

Never seen this one - how could I miss the ULTIMATE romantic comedy - and the salted caramel bucks drink sounds so crazy I just might have to go get one!

Robin said...

I've never seen the movie and I absolutely adore my Starbucks, so here's crossing my cyber-fingers and hoping I get the chance to see it! By the way, I teach school and have add to deal with CSC (childhood seasonal craziness.) I think I deserve a prize! =)

I love, love, this movie. And every year at Christmas when the girls are in their nativity play. I have to ask who is going to play the Christmas lobster. ;-)

And you know. I might actually have to give away a copy myself. It kinda goes with my theme for the upcoming week's weekend winners. It might be a consolation prize :-)

Julie said...

I haven't seen this movie... it would be fun to get :) Love the holiday cheer... :) I am still working on my email to you... thanks for being patient...it has been crazy here.

I've neither seen the movie, nor have I had salted caramel hot chocolate. Both sound great though :o)

Oh I love that movie.

But seriously, Kiera could use one or 12 of those Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate.

I keep seeing that darn Chanel commercial. The kids are wondering why I'm screaming "eat something" at the t.v.
