In Excelsis Deo.

Scott came home with a fancy, shmancy new camera a couple of weeks ago and we've been waiting for the perfect moment to break it in. Our moment arrived.

Last night was our church's Christmas pageant. Libbey was an angel. A bright, beautiful angel, adorned in a flowing white robe, gossamer wings, and a sparkling silver halo. You would have thought the child was making her Broadway debut the way I fervently snapped 50 pictures in a span of about 3 and one half minutes. (An easy accomplishment because of the new camera--I felt like a member of the paparazzi, wildly clicking away.) Scott, sitting next to me, steadily held the camcorder, zooming in and out on our gorgeous angel's face.

The grand finale of the performance was a rocking rendition of Joy to the World, complete with hand and arm motions and a thumping bass line. I captured all of this on camera, live and in action, with every intention of showcasing our little star's big night on stage...er, pulpit. Perfect blog fodder for the holidays, right? And seriously y'all...she was adorable...throwing her arms in the air, singing about Jesus, smiling for the audience, acting a bit nervous, and just being her precious self.

Please allow me to share a picture from last night, as I was a very proud mama:

Um. Yeah.

New camera+not reading instructions=the deletion of all 57 photos.

I'm still not over it. It's gonna take some time. Please bear with me.

I did manage to get a picture of her last evening...after the halo and wings had been stored away until next year. She still looks pretty angelic, I have to say. I love her more than my own life.

Of course she was...........

and you have the video right?

I'm still sad because Coops' preschool program, in this his one and only year of preschool, was cancelled last friday because of our ferocious winter storm. I'm going to request that they reschedule the performance for January........he is my baby, and this is his ONLY year of preschool ya know!

What are you?

A Guy?

Cause guys just work stuff without reading the instructions.

Oh, wait. Was I supposed to make you feel better?

My bad.

oh I am so sorry that you lost the pictures, that is super frustrating.... thank goodness for the video recorder...

If I ever have babies, I want them to be as precious as yours. And with the same amazing genius musical minds.

New Young Pony Club anyone?

She is simply beautiful.

So heartbreaking about the pics. Reminds me of my youngest daughters first birthday party. I thought there was film in the camera. I was wrong. Sad day :(
I feel your pain.

That's poopy that you lost all those pictures. I can picture the pageant in my mind and it's breathtaking!

And Libbey looks pretty cute too, but I can tell that under the surface lies a little sweet rebellion.

Like mother like daughter.

Damn technology! She still looks like an angel to me.

Oh girl. I am so sorry. But I am sure the pictures in your mind will be vivid forever! And thank goodness you got video. An aside - I love when they do rocking renditions of Xmas songs for the kids. It was a favorite part in Tristan's Xmas show.

First off let me just say that with everybody getting new camers for Christmas I really hope Santa is bringing me one.

And what were you thinking not reading the instructions?

Ooops.

I'm sooooo sorry!!! Been there, done that, although its harder when you KID does it and you're trying not to bite their head off. Your daughter looks like an angel anyway, wings and halo or not.

Oh, sweetie. That totally sounds like something I'd do.

I HATE losing pictures.

She is beautiful!!!

Also--I am jealous of your new camera. I want one. Pronto.

Lula, I am so sorry. That would totally happen to me though. Totally.

Britt said...

Oh boogers .. I would totally do that. And cry for a week because of it.

But she is gorgeous, even without the halo and wings =-)

At least you brought your camera, which is more than I would do most times.

Anyway, I gave you an award/tag over at my place. It's right up your alley. Come on over, girlie.

Been there. Done that. I feel your pain. A good self induced vomit will help. Chased with some Bailey's. I didn't recommend that if anyone comes askin'.....oh, maybe I should have made this an anonymous comment. Oh well, love me through it.

OH NO!!!! I'm sick for you. There is NOTHING worse than losing pictures. I'm so sorry. But I'm SURE she was the star of the show.

Oh, no. Ohno, ohno, ohno! My heart breaks for you. To take a ton of gorgeous photos and find out they're lost...you're killin me!!!

Agghhh-- Oh no! My mom did the same thing a few months back with her new camera at my brother's pinning ceremony when he was promoted to Chief (he is in the Navy).

All of her pictures, gone. Thankfully another parent there was able to share her pictures.

Aw I am so sad for you. Why can't things just work. We shouldn't have to read the instructions they should just work and know what we want them to do. But that is a really cute picture, really.

She is just absolutely so beautiful.

Awww I hate it when that happens! I'm sorry. She is beautiful!

Brandy said...

Oh no! I'm always afraid that will happen to me.

A friend of mine got a little too happy on one of cruises, where she proceeded to take pictures of her va-jay-jay/crotch. The next day when I was helping her remember her night I told her about the pictures. She got so flustered she erased ALL of the vacation pictures...not just the R rated ones.

Heather said...

I'm sick right along with you.

But you know what? I can picture in my mind exactly what that sweet little angel looked like, and hear her singing in that adorable southern accent...

I don't even need pictures for that.

************

Have I made you feel better yet?

The picture you did post is gorgeous, and very angelic. As is your daughter.

How exciting! A fancy schmancy new camera. What kind did you get? I am a wing it kinda gal. And reading camera instructions - well - who wrote those suckers? Because surely English was not their first language. Keep playing with it...trial and error is the best teacher. And sorry that the error landed on Libbey's big night!

i was going to do my doctoral thesis on this, but, eh, what the hell. i'll let you folks in on it. if you can keep a secret.
i think the vast majority of suicides and homocides are commited because someone has irretrievably deleted large chunks of data such as pictures, files, videos, family trees, etc.
supporting documentation be damned.

Oh no! Isn't that the most frantic sinking feeling ever!?! Just push a button and then all of a sudden it's like "whoa whoa whoa...what'd I do?? I didn't...No...no...no I didn't!!!! Crap."

I'm sorry. :(

CaraBee said...

I've had that happen to me once or twice. It is awful. Especially when it was a one of a kind moment, which mine, OF COURSE, were. You still got a pretty darn cute picture though!

That girl is going to be a heartbreaker! Probably already is. Poor, poor Daddy.

Amy said...

Oh dear! That does suck. I feel for you. Even with the video, you want the stills. Pull out those wings, put on the halo. Retake. Just pretend. No one will ever remember. It's all about how you remember it, right?
But, this picture is adorable too. :)

sassy stephanie said...

Oh no! Email all of the other parents and start collecting pics!!

Shannon said...

Oh, no!!! That sounds like something I would do!

Wait... I havedone that! The buttons on our old digital camera are so sensitive... luckily it happened to me when we first got the camera, so it was just "practice" shots I had deleted. But oh, that sinking feeling of "oh... crap." UGH.

Anonymous said...

AAAAAAAAAGH! I so feel for you! I don't think I've ever deleted a bunch of photos. Unless you count all the prints (pre-digital) that I've lost in my basement...

About once a month, I lose or even throw away something on purpose, and then THE NEXT DAY realize I desperately needed it. It's especially fun when my realization comes thru Charlie who asks "Where's the ... that was right here yesterday?"

Mariah said...

I can see the halo, clear as day!

Becky said...

I am sooooo sorry. I would be just sick over this. You are handling this very mature:)

Michelle said...

Dang girl. I am crying with you. That is one of my biggest fears. Really.

There's software out there that will let you capture still shots of the video footage. So all shouldn't be totally lost. I feel your grief though.
