Flashback Friday!

Please. Please tell me there are other...how shall I put this? Other freaks out there who loved the eerie brilliance that was Twin Peaks. Any takers? Who's gonna admit it? Who was even old enough in 1990 to appreciate this hour of thrills & chills, immortalized by David Lynch, genius that he was/is.

It's probably no surprise by now that I was a huge fan of Twin Peaks. Because y'all know, I'm a little whacko when it comes to this kind of genre. Twin Peaks truly rocked in so many ways. It fascinated me...who killed Laura Palmer? It frightened me...one word: Bob. It humored me...Agent Cooper & his adoration of cherry pie. It made me covet highly arched eyebrows like Audrey's (Sherilyn Fenn).

I never planned to own up to my love of Peaksmania. But Melissa encouraged me to go public. Really what she said was, "Oh please--we already know you're whacko--this won't shock anyone!" That's one fiery pastor's wife, I tell ya. And just so y'all know--she's a Peakser, too. Yeah girl, I just outed you!

Now you're all gonna get your Netflix queues primed & ready for some Twin Peaks love, right? It was such a good show. Mysterious, wild, scary, fun, quirky, and a rip-roarin' good time. Promise.

Happy weekend, y'all!

Oh, but y'all need to head on over to Land of Bean...Cara has posted a must-see video. Well, must-see if you have small children and need a good laugh today. I'm just sayin'.

Okay, so you know I love to be your first commentor on this delicious tele show. I think the hair on my legs just grew again because of Bob. He's so scary (said with lisp). This is big. A big move. Walk with Lula here. She needs some clapping. Let her know she's doing a great job. It's okay. Say it with me everyone. It's okay, Lula.

See, I knew you could do it. Baby steps. Baby steps.

It's way too late for this to make any sense. Email me if you need a translation.

Ah yes, Twin Peaks........that was a good show!!! And it was filmed here in the great state of Washington.

One day, on a trip to the East side of the state, my dad and I stopped at the store in Roslyn WA where they filmed. It was sooo cool!!

Another great Washington claim to fame.

I remember you bringing her diary to homeroom. I haven't remembered that until now. Was that Senior year?

Yes, I loved Twin Peaks. It was the first show that i couldn't wait to see every week. My brother used to record it on the vcr (seems so ancient now) and we would re watch it and try to figure stuff out.

I wasn't really into Twin Peaks - but I did constantly hear..."Who killed Laura Palmer?" 90210 was more my speed and the New Kids were still Hangin' Tough at that time and kept my interest. I'll have to check it out - I couldn't get the video to play, it said it wasn't available. Boo. =(

I never saw this show, but I really like many of the cast members. Hmm. Not sure if my Netflix queue is ready to handle more tv series, but I guess I'll just have to find out. LOL!

I'm thinking this explains the Twilight fascination??

I'm on Chapter 3 and am not quite getting the intrigue yet - and I may not get it for a while.

My 13-year-old stole the book from me.

Am I supposed to take it away? She's READING. (She HATES reading!)

Tell me, is this age and spiritually appropriate for my teen? I know that's the target market - but we skipped the whole Harry Potter thang.....

I have to admit, I never watched the show. But since I've LOVED pretty much everything else you've mentioned or recommended, I'll give it a go. I always liked the song, though.

Hmm...never seen it.

I admit, I've never seen it. But you've gotta love a show called Twin Peaks. hehe It sounds so dirty.

Oh man, I never got into it and when I wanted to I felt like it was too late. It was definitely intriguing. You make me want to go out and get the seasons on dvd. How many seasons where there? hmmmm.

Love my David Lynch. Even his creepy "Blue Velvet." But Twin Peaks - a masterpiece. Except for the second season...then not so much. It was truly a ground breaking show. One with the history...and the mythology...and really set the stage for shows like x-files and LOST to even be possible...

STOP being coy about letting your freak flag fly...

Trish, you big dope! That was Northern Exposure! Twin Peaks was filmed in North Bend with Mt. SI as the Twin Peaks.

Lula, I H.A.T.E.D. that show. Much too wierd for me.

Will you still love me if I admit that I have never seen this show?

I hope so.

P.S. I gave you a bloggy lovin' award today!

I've never seen it...but you are the one who I first heard about the Twilight books from....so it's gotta be good. :)

Oh Lula... I am saddened to say that in 1990 I was much more interested in The Muppets and Full House than much else.
As a tribute to the weight which I give to your opinion, though, I will indeed go add Twin Peaks to my Netflix queue.
Also, don't you worry, I will soon live much closer, and I will insist on coffee dates :)

I'm close personal friends with Eric DaRe. I have known his ex wife since birth and his son is BFF with my kids. So, of course when he told me he was in Twin Peaks, I watched the opening season with him. But I did get hooked. It is a great show, perfect for netflix. Good choice.

Hey, thanks for the love! Isn't that video a hoot!

Haters. How? This show was genius (I agree with Kat, first season was the best) and soooo groundbreaking.

"Whacko"? Is that what I said? Really? I will have to rewind my brain and get back to you on that.
Do oui offend? (Duckie, Pretty In Pink...)

I always enjoy reading your comments on other blogs.

My sis was really a Twin Peaks-er. She's now got the whole series on DVD. Whenever I'm over at her house, we sit back, relax and do a TP Marathon!

Hi! (visiting from debbie's blog) Oh, I was very much a Twin Peaks fan. Used to tape it on VCR, editing out commercials. Probably still have the tape somewhere. And I must admit there were some scenes a bit too freaky scarey that I would try hide behind a pillow and peak out to see. (really don't like scarey movies/shows, but that one intrigued me so much I could not stop watching it.) Don't think they ever finished the series properly. Or maybe it was the first season that was really good, then it seemd weird just to be weird. It's been long time since I watched. I remember I think one of the final episodes when the sheriff (? Kyle M) was in the red room with the short guy/midget. What was that all about?! Oh and I still remember the scene when that freaky scarey guy came over the couch or through living room after Laura's mother? Me and a friend would watch and try to make sense of it all. Good to know there are other twin peakers out there.

I have to admit that I never watched it. Now that makes me sad because you have great taste in books & music so I cannot doubt this must have been a great show!

And even without small kids the video was hilarious.

Trish said...

Okay, do you see that.....sisters can be so cruel sometimes.........

but yeah, I"M A BIG DORK!!

Never seen Twin Peaks, It was Northern Exposure that I loved.

I wasn't far off though in the filming town!

You can fly your freak flag, but I'll wave my dork flag.

I've never watched it, but I need to join Netflix just to rent this, Gilmore Girls and Sex and the City. Apparently I'm way behind on my cancelled shows repertoire.

Twin Peaks was a cool show. Sort of weird like the movie Fargo was weird.

They don't make 'em like that anymore!

Funny you should mention this, yesterday my husband and I were trying to explain this strange, but very cool show to our 3 teens. I know they would love it. My husband and I watched it every single week.
Loved hearing the opening, what memories.

Tiffany said...

Didn't watch Twin Peaks...sorry girl.

But, I adore you.. does that count?

Heather said...

Lula, just answering your email this way, since I'm at work. Yes, that patient of mine from last week finally passed on Monday (and her husband wouldn't even come to the hospital!). No, we don't have any plans, since here I am at work. I am planning on cutting my hours by 50% starting in October...I can't wait. Let me know if you come up with any good Twilight news, girl! I work a lot this week; I'll call you when I get a chance (maybe Wed. when Gabe is at school). Talk to you soon!

I didn't watch the Peaks when it first started so it was one of those shows that was difficult to get into if you didn't see it from the beginning. I think my husband liked it. But I am NOT surprised you were a fan!
