Unbelievable.

True story.

A couple of nights ago Scott and I were entering bills into Quicken. I had the credit card statement and would call out each purchase so he could log it properly. We were coasting along fine, me reading off the statement, naming where the purchase was made, the amount, and the budget category (i.e. gift, entertainment, household expense, etc.), and Scott keying the info into the computer.

Then...

Me: Target...$24.87...gifts.

Scott: Wait. $24.87? At Target? Double check that.

Me: Yes, $24.87. Wow...

Scott: Yeah, when have you ever spent less than $25 in Target? Was there another purchase there that day?

Me: No.

Scott: I don't know what to say, honey.

Me: It's a Christmas miracle!

Amen.

We will tell our girls about this one day, who will, in turn, pass it on to their own families. It will grow as legend and will be retold each Christmas, forever immortalized as that year Leigh Anne spent less than twenty-five dollars on one Target shopping excursion.

I left Target with only $11 in purchases a few weeks back. My husband led a parade down our street.

And every time you hear a bell an angel gets her wings.....

Awww...good story! That has never happened here;(

Are you sure about that? You mean that you drove all the way to wherever it is that you have to go to get to a Target, and that's it? Unbelievable!!!

No wonder Target's stock isn't doing so well.

I've never done that. I've gotten out of Wal-Mart for less than $20 one time, but never Target.

I bow to your greatness, Oh Beautiful Lula!

a Tonggu Momma said...

Yeah, but... how much did the gas cost you to drive there?

What is this world coming too? Wait I left the other day without buying ANYTHING. Yep you heard it here first. I only had one thing in my hand and didn't want to stand in line to get it.

It was actually very freeing.

You should go to Target and buy yourself a present as a reward--you know, in the range of at least $50... =)

I bow down to you. Seriously. I've never been able to accomplish that.

I got away with $25.02 on Tuesday---it was all snack stuff ;).

You spent less than $25???

Never..not once...have I done that. That dollar spot alone gets me every time. Dagnab that thing.

So, so true, Lula. Target is awesome.

Val said...

That totally sounds like something that could happen at my house. It's kind of sad when some of the ladies that work at Target know you and know what you get at the snack bar before my shopping adventures (small popcorn and med. drink).

I'm calling you out on this. You LIAR! No way is that possible. No way, no how. No one can leave Target spending only that amount.

Unless they were under the influence of something...

Jen said...

I had no idea that that was possible. It is a miracle.

I am so proud.

Ooh, I'm glad that is the direction you went with that. I was thinking it was more awful form the title.

I got out of Walmart the other day for 9 bucks. I made up for it, though, by taking my kids out to lunch.

Denise Grover Swank said...

Stunned and amazed. I can tell my children that I know someone who accomplished this miracle.

My miracle is that I went to Costco a few weeks ago and spent about $20. THAT'S a true miracle!!! My usual bill is over $300.

LOLLLL!!!

I spent $49 there yesterday. But most of it was for a prescription, that doesn't count, right?

It must have been a mistake on the checker ladies end.

Target almost ruined my marriage when they started opening the Super stores. I would "grocery shop" there, yet Sweetie did nothing but complain that we had no food in the house. But, seriously, how much food do you need when you are sporting a sparkly fabric maternity skirt that you got so cheap it was almost stealing?

Ker said...

Thank goodness our closest Target is over 25 miles away! Unfortunately that Target is also right next to our closest Costco, so if we make it to Target we inevitably end up spending ridiculous amounts of money at Costco, too.

Heather said...

And I'm doing a happy dance if I spend less than $50 there.

Did I tell you they are building a Target five minutes from my house?

Yeah, I'm in so much trouble, it's not even funny. I'll be praying for self-control every single day.

Oh, and it's right next to freakin' Kohls. Why does God tempt me so?

A lovely Holiday Story. My kids might learn more from this tale than from Gift of the Magi. Hey, Uncle Lynn & Pop'rs are on TV over at my place. Really!

That is unbelievable! Never happened to me!

That would be a Christmas miracle here, too. :)

Wow! That will be like a family tall tale. It will keep getting told until no one knows whether it is actually true or not. Haha!

What is THAT like!?! Praise Jesus.

You are my hero! I let out a big "WOOHOO!" the other day when my Target bill came in under $100. I shouted it right there at the check out. I was so impressed with myself. Now I have your example to aspire towards. Thanks. I think.

cue the gaithers singing "we are standing on holy ground"

this is definitely a momentous occasion. Target is one of those places like Costco, or Bev-mo :D that you go in knowing you're going to spend at least 100 bucks. it's a given.

you should get an award.

Honesty that is amazing. I actually wrote a post on this before, but you have me waaaayyy beat. I can't get out of there for less than $100. You my friend, are a very smart shopper. :)

Marrdy said...

I didn't think anyone ever left Target spending less then $50 or Costco spending less than $100. It really is a miracle.

Stephanie said...

It could also be one of those stories, like a friend of a friend, but it SO happened to them, but no one really believes that...know what i mean :) haha

Why do I POP in when I really need to make a trip to the john and then you make me laugh and well...tomorrow night I think I'll pee FIRST.

Love this story. I'll write chapter two: The Day Lisa walked out of Costco spending less than $100!

I'm pretty sure the decimal is in the wrong place.

$248.70?

Now that sounds right.

$2.49 yesterday. I went to buy my boys dress shirts for theier grandparents 50th anniv. party this weekend. I couldn't find one for Ben, but I did find one for Coop. IT was on clearance marked $4.98, I decided I liked it based on the price. When I got up to the register it rang up $2.49. I Then decided I LOVED it based on the price and then I proceeded over to Starbucks to spend my savings on a Chai tea.

I thought it was an urban legend, the possibility of leaving Target with less than $50. And I never dreamed of getting out for less than $25. I just didn't think it could happen.

Tell the truth, you had a gift card.
