Flashback Friday!

Every October I force myself to sit through this movie, with at least one light brightly burning, while peeking around the pillow I keep firmly planted against my face:

It stars Bette Davis. And her eyes. It features oh-so-chic stylings from the 70's. And let the record show...it's a Disney movie, albeit a very nontraditional Disney offering. Shiver-inducing and spook-filled, this movie scares the shadoobie out of me. Every. Single. Time.

"The Watcher in the Woods," is on my list of most chilling films ever. There's no blood, no gore, no hockey mask, or eerie piano accompaniment. A Gothic ghost/paranormal story at its finest, "The Watcher..." creeps me out, but in a good way. I love being frightened psychologically. I love that I've seen this movie at least twenty times and still have a hard time sleeping after each viewing. I love that the girl from "Ice Castles" co-stars, and holds her own against Ms. Davis. And her eyes.

You. Must. Watch.
Seriously.
*This message brought to you by Lula, who had to turn on the lights while embedding the movie clip from You Tube. For real.

Don't think I've ever seen it. But those psychological thrillers are scarier to me. Like Blair Witch.

Ever seen the Omega Man with Charlton Heston. That movie freaks me out!!

Holy freakin' cow! I read your first sentence (not knowing what the clip was) and I immediately thought... oh, I have a movie like that for me... "The Watcher In the Woods".
And then I clicked on the clip... and it's THAT SAME MOVIE. It totally traumatized me the first time I saw it, but I've seen it several times since.
Girl, we TOTALLY have to rent this movie and watch it together. (but after the kids are in bed so we don't traumatize them too)

I think I have issues .. gore makes me giggle. Those get inside your head movies are the ones that stick with me, and fuel my paranoia to new heights. My hubs is always asking me why I read/watch things that make me so paranoid .. I tell him that they keep my senses keen and my toes ready. He just laughs at me. ;o)

I've never heard of this one, but I'm adding it to the list for the scary movie marathon I'm now planning this month. Fun!

I cannot believe you posted this. I gave this to my neice who is obsessed with scary movies last year for Christmas. It was the first scary movie I ever watched. I saw it on my thirteenth birthday. To add to it all, my name is Karin and I totally freaked out with NeraK scene...okay, now I'm scared and need to run back upstairs to hubby.

Flashback Friday, I like that!

Funny, I did a post about movies today, too. I haven't seen this movie. I love old horror flicks, though, so I'll definitely be adding it to my Netflix queue for a little Halloween treat.

Heather and I love scary movies!!! (and scary books) Scariest book, Salems Lot and scariest movie The Shining. Stephen King is the King of Horror.

Jen said...

I love scary movies too. The movie that does it for me is the Blair Witch Project. I still can't watch that movie alone especially now that we live in the woods.

Amy said...

Another fun recommendation! I think I saw this forever ago. I am going to rent it. There were some scary ones back then!

I love this movie. I remember watching it as a kid and thinking I was pretty grown up. I'm sure it fueled my love of psychological thrillers...that and the fact that my mom loves that type of stuff too.

I used to love that movie, and others like it, but ever since I became a single parent, I just can't do psychological scares... nope nope nope

Kori said...

Ok Lula there is something you must know about me. Are you ready?

Ok here it goes.

I don't do scary, spooky, or psycho.

There I said it. Whew I feel much better now.

So I didn't watch the youtube preview cause well that's is so not how I roll. lol

Oh Lula... how I wish I could say that I will trust your recommendation and make a point to view such a fabulous Lulalove movie.
Alas... I get nightmares. Like, serious, wake up drenched in sweat, afraid to move, can't get back to sleep, last for a month or two after viewing the movie (or reading the story/book) nightmares.
So this is one that I will be passing on.
With Deepest Regret,
Lauren

I haven't seen this movie...or heard of it. May be one to check out here in a few weeks! So fun!

And I dig the Save Second Base too. I stole it from someone else's blog, too. I really wanted one that says Save the Ta-Tas, but I couldn't find a widget thinger-majig!

And, no no, Moose's bib is even better clean! You should see his jacket!

I have the willies just READING about the movie. I get horrible nightmares and think about evil for days after watching a scary movie, lol. Maybe, just maybe, I'll add this to our Netflix list to watch with the husband. He'd be so impressed!

I've never heard of this one!

Kinda freaky-deaky!

I don't do blood-and-guts-and-gory horror movies... but suspenseful thrillers I do like. May have to check this one out sometime.

Holy Guacomole that movie scared me when I was 12, I still remember the Halloween party I was at, eeek! What is completely insane is that I rented that movie to watch with my older monkeys and husband and I was still icked out, along with terrifing my crew. I'm I rotten or what.

Elena said...

The first time I wathced that was at a sleepover for some girl's birthday. I think I was traumatized for life. But I still manage to watch it every once in a while. It is SOOOO freakin scary.

Nope. Sorry. Can't do it. I would rather sit through a shoot everyone you see blood and guts. Can't do anything that would in any way make me think it could REALLY truly happen. *shudder

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! I can't believe I haven't seen it in years. It's funny because as soon as you said it stars Bette Davis, I KNEW it was Watcher in the Woods!

I'm definitely going to have to show this to my girls!

HOW did our moms let us watch that FREAKY movie when we were little? My kids would be having nightmares for weeks!

Oh no you don't, I'm about to go to bed - heebeejeebee-less, thank you very much!

But really, with a title like that, do I really need to watch it - oh the mind is already reeling.

Nope. I can't do it - no scary movies for me. Ever since I saw a dracula movie when I was five (at a friend's house and my parents didn't know), I have had nightmares with scary movies. :)

Heather said...

I'm so sorry I'm late in arriving. I don't really do scary movies so I haven't seen this one. I'm a dork and they stay in my head forever.

Lula! I made that pumpkin crisp...it turned out GREAT! I only put regular nuts (actually ice cream topping nuts) on part of it (pecans, I found, are not cheap) and it was still wonderful! Thank you!

Marrdy said...

Oh.My.Gosh I took a group of teenage girls to see this at a drive in theatre when it first came out. None of us slept that night!

Unknown said...

Another good one, and it is really old...as in black and white old; "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte"! That is a great movie. Also starring Bette Davis!

Stephanie Wetzel said...

I never got to see that one. Mom was sure it would warp my mind.

And she was probably right. I am a WUSS with scary movies. Can't sit still even for the mildest suspense.

Lula, I tagged you for a meme on my blog, The Red Clay Diaries at
http://momonthejourney.wordpress.com. In case you need something to do. :)

I remeber watching this movie as a kid but then again I watched a lot of inappropriate scary movies as a kid. Love it!!!

Angie's Spot said...

This movie gave me nightmares SO many times as a kid. I love being scared psychologically too! Way better than the whole gore thing.

Oh and I meant to tell you 3 comments ago that I ate at Sticky Fingers a few days ago and thought of you. LOL!
