Going Public.

Somewhere in the world there is place for people such as me, who struggle with addiction. There is no 12-step program that I am aware of, nor a facility akin to the Betty Ford. Unless Coco Chanel has recently opened a luxurious treatment center, in which case I'm booking my stay now.

My addiction is a collection of paints, powders, and potions in all shapes, sizes, and hues. There is a reason I refer to my beloved Sephora as The Mother Ship. Because truer words have never been spoken. Please take me seriously when I inform you that upon entrance into this bastion of the cosmetic world, the heavens part and I audibly hear the Hallelujah chorus being performed by a cloud of witnesses. Amen.

Witness one of my drawers full of delights so outstanding that mere words fail me:

Lest you think I'm spoiled rotten, please know it has taken me years (and many Bare Escentuals TSVs on QVC!) to accumulate this collection. And yes, I wear it nearly every day. Not a full-face of it, mind you. But at least some lipgloss and mascara--you know, so I'm not frightening people with my bare visage. My mama brought me up right.

This little white bag is full of fun stuff--glittery, sparkly, "date night" make-up. Meaning I wear it once a week. Or when I'm in California. Necessities, y'all.

And here's my perfectly pink bag, all packed and ready to go at a moment's notice. It stores all my applicator brushes, fun eyeshadows, mascaras, and eyeliners. (Yes, plural--everyone needs black, charcoal, and mocha eyeliner, of course, but navy, plum, and emerald are fun to have on hand, as well!

And here's the stuff I received at Christmas...I've yet to store any of it away, because I just like looking at the newness on my vanity. Painted my toes in the blue color--it's called "Skinny Jeans!" Fabulous, no?
Please stick with me through this admission of my addiction. We all have skeletons in our closets, of course. Mine just happen to have remnants of highlighted cheekbones.

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." ~Proverbs 31:30

Yes, I know it well, Lord. And You still love me...

That is an amazing collection.

I barely wear make-up and I have a small make-up pouch.

Maybe I need a makeover. STAT. Maybe you can help me. In April. On a trip somewhere...

And I LOVE that blue nail polish. I was just thinking I needed some blue toes. You rock.

Thank you for sharing your secret addiction.

Could you come and give me lessons, Oh Great One?

What a gorgeous collection!
Yes, I know that envy is a sin...

Forgive me Lord, for I am sinnin' all over this blog!!!

If only there were a Sephora store locally, and I had the finances to even splurge ONCE!

I *heart* makeup, nail polish, sparkly and glittery.

Sigh.

Trish said...

Hey Gina took my line!! I was going to say that exact thing.
I have NO makeup. NONE.
I don't even know how where to buy it, what to buy or how to apply it. I mean I could probably figure out that lip gloss goes on my lips, and things such as that, but beyond that..........I'm lost.

Please come to Washington and give me a lesson!!

You post fits right into the award I just gave you!

I love that your date bag also works for California... when are you coming back by the way.

I refuse to eat carne asada nachos without you.

I would LOVE to go and spend a TON of money at sephora!! i really want to start selecting better make up and have someone show me how to do my make up!

KatBouska said...

I'm a Mac girl myself.

But whoooweeee I don't have THAT much!! At least you'll be lookin' might fine with an addiction like that!

Julie said...

I have a pouch full of makeup I never wear. Only when I go out with the girls, because my husband likes me natural without makeup... he says it takes away from my natural beauty... I don't understand it but I thank God for him!!!! That is impressive your collection!

I used to really enjoy the Sephora store at my local mall. Unfortuantely they closed it. The only other one in Reno, is way across town. :-(

Amy said...

Oh my sister is addicted to the stuff too, of the QVC kind. She watches the channel for HOURS at a time and buys it all up.

I love me some makeup too, gotta have it :)

Laura said...

I heart Sephora and BE!! You must try Philosophy products!

Michelle said...

I can't wait to show this to Danielle. She will be in awe of you and probably want your autograph. She had already been begging me to take her to see you, now, oh lord.

Live.Love.Eat said...

Dang girl. My drawer couldn't be more opposite. Bare necessities for me are just that, BARE. 5 things in a pouch and I am set. No variations of colors, no application sticks. Hah. Great collection!!!!!

a Tonggu Momma said...

I don't wear make-up unless forced to do so. I do, however, wear Bare Escentuals when forced. So... can we still be imaginary friends?

Val said...

Holy smokes! That's a ton of makeup. I would like some lessons please. I wear makeup every day. I have to! Not that I am so much better with it on but just to his scars.
I would die to have your collection.

Val said...

Oh yeah, I've never been to sephora either. I know, huh?
We have one at a mall here, I might just have to take a trip over there this week and check it out.

Amy said...

Damn girl, that's a lot of make-up. I am so impressed with how neatly it's all kept. You're fun. :)

CaraBee said...

My make-up collection looks paltry, nay, anemic compared to yours. Although I like lookin' purdy as much as the next gal, I just don't really know how. Will you do a makeup class? I'll be the model! Plus, and this is a biggie, every penny I spend on makeup is one that I'm not spending on shoes. Oh shoes, how I love thee.

Heather said...

Hmm, Michelle and Danielle, me and Isabel, you and Libbey.

Sounds like a road trip to me.

I love your makeup collection. We so need a slumber party!

Melissa said...

Did you see Mad Men got a golden globe last night? I thought of you.

I love makeup and always feel better when wearing a full face of it. It just does something to the psyche.

You may want to get a padlock on that drawer, though. If I ever come to visit, I'm not beyond theft. Just puttin' that out there. You've been warned.

Pinky Roth said...

Love your makeup collection! You got me to using Bare Minerals and that is all I wear! I loved the Graceling and I will bring it back to you on Libbey's birthday...I saw Mad Men got some award last night...never have watched that show.

I am ashamed to admit this to you... but I just recently discovered the benefits of eye liner.

I don't own a lot of makeup... but I do love me some lip gloss. I probably have enough lip gloss to last a lifetime!

Anonymous said...

Um, you have a lot of make-up.

Brandy said...

And I thought what I had was excessive. I'm definitely showing this to Stevie so that he will get off my back.

Even though I have a ton of stuff, I find eyeshadow is scary. I try sometimes but then idk if I like it so I've been doing a peachy color on the lid w/ green eyeliner and mascara. Simple but I like it. For now.

Unknown said...

ahhh, i have a weakness for sephora as well :) accountability always helps with overcoming addictions!

Keys to the Magic Travel said...

I have never been in Sephora. I do wear make up. But not much. Powder to smooth out my weird skin tone. And maybe some mascara. Oh, and Dr. Pepper lip smackers. I think that I wore more make up when I was 10.

Elena said...

Okay, when you come out West to give lessons to Gina and Trish, count me in. I don't have a clue. Eyeliner and mascarra for me, that's all. I've really been tempted by that bare essentials stuff, but I just don't know.... And I would expect nothing less from you (okay, maybe a pouch or two less) Miss Beautiful Eyes. If I were your daughters, there would be NO WAY I could stay out of those fun drawers.

I'm simultaneously inspired and intimidated!!!!!

Cheryl said...

That reminds me...I need to get more BE stuff. :-)

Carrie said...

Holey crow! That's a lot of makeup!

I love my BE and have hooked quite a few people on it. I'm a BE pusher...

Mama Dawg said...

I recognize absolutely none of that.

Wait, I saw nail polish.

Tracey said...

I too suffer from this addiction. Sadly, the differences between us is as high dollar coke head is to low dollar crack ho! You have oodles of wonderful Department store paint while I on the other hand, have everything the drug store carries! High End for me is Loreal! ha!

If I could afford it..I toooo would call Sephora the "Mother Ship" but for now Walgreens will have to do!!

Dare I admit that I used to work for Clinique? or that I have sold Mary Kay twice in my life....

Hugs!
Tracey

It's just been in the last year or so that I've discovered the magic power of mascara ..

Obviously there is much I need to learn. =-)

Jenny and the Princess Peonies said...

Oh Sephora, I wish we had your store here in medium town USA....

Jen said...

you know, I don't know all that is Sephora. Should I start or stay away?

Unknown said...

They did on a thing on Good Morning America this morning that dollar store eyeshadow, blush & lipgloss is just as good as expensive stuff... but to stay away from the eyeliner there.

I'm not sure why I'm telling you this.

I buy my makeup at Target... with coupons.

ParentingPink said...

It's ok. I'm here to help and support you through this horrific hoarding addiction. Sephora is notorious for wooing all sorts of women with their sweet smelling concoctions and magestic make-up lines.

I should know, I'm an addict too.

Maddness of Me said...

I'm usually a MAC girl, but as soon as my foundation is almost gone, I'm planning a visit to Bare Escentuals.

I've just had too many friends tell me it is the best. I will start with foundation/powder.

Claremont First Ward said...

Woohoo, congrats to Tiffany. May I please come over and play? Pretty please? I could spend hours just looking through your makeup!

Swirl Girl said...

I am lovin' me some Bare Minerals.

I have one small pouch of makeup and that's it.

You should do a video tutorial on how to apply it.

That looks like my bathroom...uh...my wife's bathroom!

Do you collect purses too!

I'm so thankful to be a man. Twenty minutes top from bed to car for work. That includes all minimum required hygene activities, breakfast, SportsCenter, dressing and checking first emails. 20 MINUTES!

(I wish you could see me beating my chest right now)

Erin said...

Oh how I wish I knew how to be this girly.
I have NO IDEA how to use makeup....
please come teach me! I LONG for drawers of small potion/lotion bottles.......

Marrdy said...

I am so impressed. I have foundation, mascara, concealer and blush. You should give us all lessons!

Ker said...

My addiction is worse than yours, because not only do I purchase ridiculous quantities of uber expensive makeup (I love Bare Escentuals and MAC) but I NEVER wear makeup (much to my husbands dismay). *sigh*

Maybe that should be my new years resolution?

Unknown said...

I just wish my collection was as organized as yours. Now, I'm feeling like I need to go dump out my 5 bags and put it all in some type of bin or bins. And your collection is making me want to head over to Sephora right now. I saw some eye make-up I really wanted, but denied myself for some sill reason.

Becky said...

We all have our skeletons...

at least yours makes you look pretty and smell nice!

Linda said...

Love love love Bare Minerals! But you totally win. That's quite the collection. I seriously need some skinny jeans ... I'll have to look for that one.

Michelle said...

DUDE! We are SOOO playing in your make-up drawer when I come visit!! And I totally want that blue nail polish on my toes! ......and for the record, I'm not coveting! HA!

Heather said...

I bow down to you and your make up drawer. Mine is sadly lacking, however I DO have the eyeliner colors you mentioned and I use them often. I'm also working on my collection of shadows. And brushes... Sephora is my secret lover.

sassy stephanie said...

I've always liked makeup, but lately, LUV it. I'm totally a makeup whore now.

Shoot me an email: bit.of.sassy at gmail.com

I can't find yours anywhere!

April said...

Girl...you really do have a problem! Can you help me with some new makeup ideas? Please?

And how sweet of you to mention me in your comment to Michelle. I just have to be invited the next time y'all get together...it is not an option!

Funky Kim said...

One day I hope to visit a Sephora. I've given up hope that one will actually land in my neighborhood.

I have seen your collection..and it is beautiful..but you did it justice by taking nice pictures. :) thanks for sharing!!

You can hate me when I say I've visited not only the Sephora in Times Square but also the one on the Champes Elysees in Paris. The Parisian store was my first introduction to the wonderment that is Sephora. It's where I got my most favorite nail color in the world, of which I still wear after ten years. The best thing about the store is that it lets you just be...for hours on end...testing, playing, mixing, matching. Sigh. Thank you.

Dee said...

i love make up too! I am starting to buy me my MAC make up which I love....I always say you can't have enough pretties!
