Flashback Friday!

Fellow blogger (and very good friend!) Vicki, of Not So SAHM, and I graduated from Warner Robins High School over 15 years ago. Here we are, side-by-side in the yearbook...love the crease from where I just slapped that enormous thing up on the scanner? Let's pause for a moment and cherish the tender memories of early 90's hair, and eyebrows which have yet to discover the art of shaping and waxing. We totally thought we were on 90210, and with good reason...the WRHS Class of 1993 graduated right alongside the West Bev Highers, as well as the Bayside kids from Saved By The Bell. I treasure this bond of pop culture that we share with fictional characters from cheesy, teeny-bop tv shows.

Raise your hand if you're thankful the high school years are a distant memory. I have both hands raised! Vicki and I are older, wiser, happier, beyond blessed, and with much better hair. Because it all comes down to the hair, y'all. And the eyebrows.

But...would you go back and relive a day from your high school years? If so, please tell me all about it. There's not a moment of my time at WRHS that I would willingly suffer again.

OK, that's not true. There's a scene in Peggy Sue Got Married when Peggy looks at a picture of Michael Fitzsimmons at her class reunion and muses, "He's the only guy I wish I'd gone to bed with..." I'm not going to take it that far, but there is one guy I wished I'd kissed. Nothing more than just a good, teenaged make-out session. To this day I'm shocked he and I never did lock lips...'cause I'd kissed half his friends, and he mine. Our lack of snogging is my one regret from my high school days. And no, I'm not telling y'all his name! (Tori, Ric, Kelly, and Vicki--if you guess correctly, I'll come clean. Genie, it wasn't Ric!)

Enough about me...I'm throwing this one back to y'all. Would you relive any particular day of your high school career? Let's discuss...

Happy weekend, y'all!

*Mama, if the pole didn't kill you, this one surely will! I love you!

These pictures remind me all too clearly of HS. I graduated in 93, too. What happened to perms, anyway? he he. Both of my hands are raised. I actually really didn't like HS. At all.

You guys were so pretty! My hair looked a lot like Vicki's in my senior (class of 92) picture only the bangs were substantially bigger. Would I relive any day? I don't think so. I actually enjoyed high school, but I can't think of anyone I wish I'd kissed. Although maybe a few I wished I hadn't.

that's so cool you guys were yearbook neighbors, and now you're blog neighbors. and leigh anne, i think you should be proud that your hair mostly looks normal. i probably saw that haircut twice yesterday. and i saw vicki's several times at the north georgia state fair earlier this week. that is maybe not such a good thing (love ya, notsosahm).

anyway, no i wouldn't go back, though i agree now that youth is wasted on the young. i was so dumb. now i know what my dad was talking about when he said: for a girl so smart, you sure can do some dumb stuff.

i dunno who you wanted to kiss. may i'd like a point for knowing who it wasn't (trey, which is who everyone else wanted to kiss. well not me, really, i was more into pretty boy, silent-type corey unspellable last name)

I actually had straight hair... so that is nice, but it still wasn't a great picture...they put the wrong one in and it was one with me and a scrunched face.

I actually liked high school. It was a good experience for me. The only think I would like to do over, is go back and know what I know now...and be able to debate with my teachers more intelligently.

Love the hair! Close to my '91 pictures. I liked school. Looking back, it was so carefree compared to adulthood. And like you, it's all about a guy or I should say guys. I dated one guy for 2 years (stupid mistake) and wished I had dated/gone out more. There were boys interested and I was interested in them, just I was too nice to break things off.

I had fun in high school. I loved my boyfriend from then. One of those great high school boyfriends that you shouldn't marry. He was so hot. Ahhhh....

Nice picture. I think you look great. You were fine in the 90's. It's us 80's graduates that really had it going on.

Have a great weekend.

Michelle said...

No, way. I hated high school. Funny I work at one now and love it.

Sissy said...

I loved high school. I did. I wasn't oh so popular, but I was in the B crowd. And I did a ton of stuff, so people knew who I was. And I had a great time. I loved Friday night games and being on the yearbook staff and decorating for the prom. I think that's why I loved teaching high school so much....I liked it the first time around. And I was thin. I could fit into anything. Sigh. I miss those days.

I remember those pictures. And it's funny because that's re hair we had in between our Jr and Sr years, not Sr year. I remember saying screw it, I'm not worryin about my hair anymore an quit doing anything with it except brush it. I was over trying to impress anyone b/c my "man" was off at college. That's how I still wear my hair today. Different man though.

I thought it was Trey that you wanted to "snog" but it seems like Kelly nixxed that choice. Maybe Jerry since you've talked about him before. I didn't realize everyone was kissing everyone else. No one wanted to kiss me :(

As for the shout out...where's that button you said you were putting up? Was it just a one time thing? I can take the not so subtle hint :)

Darn you, I have a stomachache now, just thinking about going back to high school. And I didn't really hate it when I was there, but was so insecure and worried about what other people were thinking, not to mention the fact that I probably single-handedly ruined the ozone layer with all the White Rain hairspray I used to get that awesome 90's hair.

*Shudder*

I am happier in my thirties than I have been at any other point in my life.

I don't wanna go back. Don't make me!

Trish said...

No way. No How. No when.

Particularly not my year spent at Wheeler HS in May-retta, GA. **shudder**

I am perfectly content to not have to relive any of my youth.

Love the brows!

Shelley said...

I kind of have mixed emotions about going back. It's been 25 years since I graduated and maybe, just maybe that's the key. I might possibly go back and relive graduation night. I'm not saying I would have slept with him, but I should have just laid a good ole lip smacking smoooooooch on this guy. Oh well, no telling what I could have gotten away with in the name of celebration, huh? No, really I was so shy and backward at that time, I would have fainted.
I am happy with how my life is now (minus a few hundred pounds) and I really wouldn't like to trade it for those days of insecurity and angst.

Unknown said...

Funny, I'm posting under Shelley and that was my best friend in high school's name - even that spelling.

I liked high school. I wasn't popular but I had a nice circle of friends. I was active in youth group and more popular there I guess. I had fun in my classes (best moment ever was hiding our Spanish teachers timer inside her overhead projector)... sure, some of it sucked big hind tit (can I say that here?)... but all in all it was good. Would I want to go back and relive it? No way in h-e-double hockey sticks.

Mrs. X said...

I would go back, for one day and one day only, the day I met my husband.

Brandy said...

I'm not sure if I would go back given the chance but if I was brave enough I would try to be nicer. My group and I were kinda "snobby"...and I'm not really like that at all. :[

I'm sure I missed out on befriending some great people in those days.

Your picture is gorgeous.

Melissa said...

I think my main regret is not being a stronger personality. I was sooooooooo insecure back then and some of that confidence can only come with age, but that is something, if I had it to do over (thank the good Lord I don't), I would change.

I love the hair. I will have to email you a pic of mine. Much the same. I think my bangs had more height......

Lauren W said...

You know, I think the only thing I would want to go back to from my high school days is gymnastics and my team. Love of the game and all that... :)
Let's be honest, though, I could totally do without my fashion sense. It was not so awesome, to say the least :) No wonder I wasn't one of the cool kids ;)

Heather said...

I would rather cut off my arm that relive any part of high school. I'm bitter.

Tori said...

Oh. my. word. Look at y'all!!! That's pretty cool that you and Vicki were right next to one another in the yearbook! I can't even remember my own picture, but I'm definitely not sad about it.

I have no clue who it was you wanted to kiss. I'll go with Vicki though and say Jerry..... seems everyone wanted to, although I have to say that I personally did not.

There's no way I'd go back and do HS over again. I would love to be able to change some of the stupid things I did in HS... some of the people I dated for example (why did I date some of those people?), but I most definitely wouldn't change the end result. Maybe the teasing I got at the end of our SR year for dating a JR, but just look at what came from that! :)

Unknown said...

anyway, why is your name italicized and vicki's isn't? these things trouble me.

Elena said...

I'd go back to get my body, it got lost somewhere. And there were definitly a few fun times I'd love to relieve and a few things I'd change if I could. Great senior pictures! Fun to see.

Vicki wins, as does Tori. Yes, Jerry Livingston, the Brad Pitt of our class. He would kill me for referring to him as that, but we all know he was handsome. OK, he was hot.

And Tori, you are such a liar--you KNOW you wanted to kiss Jerry. In 4th grade, when we were all cheerleaders for the Broncos and he was the star quarterback. Ha-ha-ha-ha!

Kelly also wins for knowing it wasn't Trey. Yes, he was cute...but I had zero desire to kiss him. He voted for Perot, for goodness sakes. I lost all respect for him at that point in our senior year!

RIC BLAZI--where are you? Chime in, dude! We all wanted to kiss you too, Mr. WRHS Homecoming King, Mr. Football Star, Mr. Best-Looking, Mr. Big Man On Campus. Yeah, you were "it," my friend. And you still are...with your wife and 32 kids. OK, OK...4 kids.

Love the yearbook photo!!

I wish I had dated other guys in high school. I only dated one guy...my entire high school career and I married him.

I wish I'd lived a little more, done more t hings and not been so focused on my boyfriend.

Keys to the Magic Travel said...

High school was not horrid for me at all. It was simply "fine." But...I don't want to go back and re-live any of it. I like who I am today much better than then...

And I've never had anything done to my brows. But they mostly hide under my bangs...

Mama Dawg said...

You know, except for some spectacularly bad moments, high school wasn't THAT bad for me.

Are there things I'd like to go back and do? No, not really. I'd like to go back in time and see myself as others saw me or at least go back and look at myself with wiser eyes.

Mama Dawg said...

Oh, and I'm shipping out your stuff tomorrow. It's all packaged and ready to go! Thanks again for shopping at The Briar Patch!

You are hilarious. Nope, wouldn't want to go back to high school. Wouldn't want to trade my happily married life for my chaste life in high school. ;)

Live.Love.Eat said...

OH wow!! I should follow you and scan some pics. Your hair looks totally normal for back then. My hair, not so much. My high school memories are quite bittersweet! As always, while I excelled in school, I wore my heart on my sleeve & spent too much pining. Too much heartache. I wouldn't change feeling something about someone, but I would certainly change the intensity of my emotions & time I spent on the chase. If I had to go back, I would do a lot of it differently. One thing especially! I would say yes to the really heavy kid who was my friend who asked me to his prom where my one year older friends would have been. I said no because I was too vain.

Becky said...

I graduated in 93 too! And NO! you couldn't pay me to go back to High School. I'm lucky I made it thru the 1st time! Yuck!

I am very happy being 33 and living the life I have now!

mkosboth said...

I was in high school a full decade before you, and had easily four different hair styles for those four years. UGH. The only day I can think of right now that I would willingly relive is the day in English class I acted out a part from " A Midsummernight's Dream" and realized you could understand Shakespear if you said it out loud. And I discovered I liked acting.

Aunt Julie said...

I've got BOTH hands up. My high school years are more than a "distant memory." They're downright prehistoric!

Heather W said...

I was also Class of '93 but at J. Frank Dobie HS. Go Longhorns!! Good Times!! I think Vicki and I had the same hairdo. I was into the Visible Changes spiral perm. If I could go back and relive something it would be prom. I wouldn't have gone with the horrible person I went with. I would also have changed most of the guys I went out with. My mom would agree if she was reading this. She thought I had the worst taste in guys.

Unknown said...

You both look great. Perms were all the rage then right? I am trying to think about something that i regret not doing in hs and am having a hard time. Perhaps do fewer activities? No, I actually wouldn't change a thing. I liked hs -both the good times and the bad.

ParentingPink said...

Priceless! I graduated from HS in 1990, so my hair was a little "higher" in my picture. LOL. You look great and I don't mind the eyebrows. I mean, really, nowadays people are shaving and over-plucking everything! LOL

Class of Ninety Kicks Ass! yes, seriously, that was our rebel slogan. Only the KONKA we would put on all of our senior tshirts had to be changed to KONCA for Conquers All to make our stuff principal happy.

I t.o.t.a.l.l.y loved all four years. I had sooooo much fun and still cherish relationships that blossomed during HS.

I was always a mouthy Sassy, but prolly not as confident around boys as I would be now. Teen years though...guess I wouldn't expect too much more.

My fave was the football games. Not so much for the football, but for the turnout of "social activity" and the way we all would stand together with so much school pride.

Dawn said...

Love the pictures!!! And heck no, I wouldn't relive any of it. I did a terrible job the first time around!!

KatBouska said...

I graduated in 97...just a smidge more youthful than you and most of your readers...just a smidge.

Don't hate.

And yes. I would go back.

I would go back and make sweet sweet love to my English teacher before losing him forever.

Love the pics...I always wondered Why the drape??? Who would ever wear a velvet off the shoulder dress or top?? What a strange item to be photgraphed in, yet everyone is!!!! (Including my own Senior pix!!)

Nope, I wouldn't go back.

Two reasons why...
#1 My daughter is a Sophomore in HS now, and it's everything I remember...good and bad. Also, the teenage girl insecurity is a tough load to bear...don't miss that.

#2 I married my High School Sweetheart. He was by far the best thing about HS for me!!

The whole summer before my junior and senior years were bliss.

I LOVED high school. I know, that's against like every adolescent code, but I did. I loved it.

Cristin said...

I went to an all girls high school... so the actual school time I'd never go back to...
But there was a boy, and a prom...I'd go back and make out with him again...ahhhh...

You're going to give your mom a heart attack! ha!

You know...I haven't been out of hs for really long (4 1/2 years) BUT there isn't much I'd re-do. Except maybe go back & not drink so much.

Unknown said...

I would never go back to high school, but I would change one thing...I wouldn't date the same guy all through high school. He was a great guy, but we shouldn't have dated all through high school. We are both married to different people now. And, I am more than happy!

Came to check out your site from Live.Love.Eat. I graduated quite a bit earlier than most on these comments and my answer would have to be no..I would not go back to High School. My life actually got so much better after High School that I did not look back! Great blog site...so glad you have so many friends!!

Gorgeous pictures. You two really are beautiful. I would go back and do high school all over again. I loved every minute of it.

Probably the day that we were playing Epsom Girl's Grammer School (they were really snooty) at hockey (field hockey, not ice). I was playing goalie and I stopped what would have been the winning goal from them. I knocked myself unconcious in the proccess, but I was the school hero for the day :-)

Oh yes, getting caught red handed by my very good guy friend's Dad when my friend Diane and I toilet papered his house. How embarassing was that? And my said friend is now the CEO of Lands' End. Yes, I have access to the Prez.

One of these days, I'm going to post some high school pics. I was Class of '93 also, right alongside Brenda, Dylan, Screech & Zack. Sigh.

I wouldn't want to relive any part of high school, but I do recall many fond memories from that era. And some that I WISH I could forget.
